CLO2
Q1. Show the steady-state performance of CT with the help of phasor diagram in case of pure
resistive and pure inductive burdens.

Q2. A CT with turns-ratio 600:5 has a secondary leakage impedance of (0.01+j0.1) Ω. It is connected
to a relay with purely inductive burden of j2 Ω using connecting wires with total resistance of
0.4 Ω. The magnetizing impedance is (3.5 + j19.7) Ω. For a fault current of 10kA, determine the
following.

i. Equivalent circuit of CT
ii. CT burden voltage
iii. CT standard class designation
iv. CT VA rating
v. CT error current
vi. Per unit current transformation error
vii. Ratio correction factor

Q3. Three ideal CTs with turn ratios of 800:5 are connected in a 132 kV transmission line. For the
primary currents

𝑰′𝒂 = 𝟐𝟒𝟎𝟎∠𝟑𝟓. 𝟖 𝑨, 𝑰′𝒃 = 𝟏𝟓𝟐𝟎∠ − 𝟒𝟓. 𝟖 𝑨 and 𝑰′𝒄 = 𝟗𝟔𝟎∠𝟏𝟒𝟗. 𝟖 𝑨.

a. Find CT secondary line currents if CTs are connected in lagging ∆ (line current lags behind
the delta current by 30o) configuration.

b. Draw the CT connection diagram and properly show CTs polarity markers and the
direction and values of all the currents on the diagram.

Q4. Three ideal CTs with turn ratios of 1200:5 are connected in a 132-kV transmission line. For
the primary currents

𝑰′𝒂 = 𝟏𝟑𝟔𝟎∠𝟑𝟓. 𝟖 𝑨, 𝑰′𝒃 = 𝟏𝟓𝟐𝟎∠ − 𝟒𝟓. 𝟖 𝑨 and 𝑰′𝒄 = 𝟔𝟔𝟎∠𝟏𝟒𝟗. 𝟖 𝑨.

I. Find CT secondary line currents if CTs are connected in leading ∆ (line current leads the
delta current by 30o) configuration.
II. Draw the CTs connection diagram, and properly show CTs polarity markers, and the
direction and values of all the currents on the diagram.

Q5. In a 33-kV substation, three VTs (33,000 V / 120 V) are connected to 33-kV bus. Primary
windings of these VTs are connected in Y-grounded and secondaries are connected in broken-
delta configuration. In case of a short-circuit fault if the system phase-to-ground voltages at the
substation become unbalance and given as

𝑽𝒂𝒈 = 𝟔. 𝟔∠𝟓° 𝒌𝑽, 𝑽𝒃𝒈 = 𝟒𝟐. 𝟗∠ − 𝟏𝟒𝟓 𝒌𝑽 and 𝑽𝒄𝒈 = 𝟒𝟐. 𝟗∠𝟏𝟒𝟓 𝒌𝑽.
Find the voltage across the broken delta terminals on the secondary side of VTs.
