(PEC’s) HISTORY • Animation in the Philippines has been around since the 1950s through animated advertisements until in 1979 • The Adventures of Lam-Ang is a 60-minute animated feature that was produced based on a local folklore • In 1983 Burbank Studios of Australia was the first to sub-contract animation production in the Philippines, setting up its studio in Manila PERSONAL ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETENCIES (PEC’S) • Entrepreneur - is one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise (Merriam Webster) • Competent - having the necessary ability or skills: able to do something well or well enough to meet a standard (Merriam Webster) • Entrepreneurial Competency or Competencies - collective set of abilities (could be non-academic - person's inherent positive character, trait or attitude) and/or skills sufficient enough or more than sufficient to organize, manage and assume the risk of a business or enterprise profitably UNCTAD • United Nations Conference on Trade and Development • In 1988, through its Empretec program identified and introduced behavioral patterns inherent and consistent to successful entrepreneurs, worldwide Summary of Entrepreneurial Competencies
• Empretec presented these entrepreneurial competencies in three clusters,
namely, achievement, planning, and power. ACHIEVEMENT CLUSTER • Opportunity seeking - observant or always on the lookout for any opportunity to create a profitable business venture at a given situation or for a given product or service • Persistence - being steadfast in his/her decisions and cannot be easily dissuaded when faced with difficulties • Commitment to work contract - ability to do whatever it takes, even to the point of making certain sacrifices, to make sure that he/she delivers on time or on the agreed period ACHIEVEMENT CLUSTER • Risk-taking - able to take certain risks at times-if not most of the time-- to be able to capitalize on a given opportunity • Demand for efficiency and quality - always demands better quality of products or services, and keeps on improving PLANNING CLUSTER • Goal setting - first steps that an entrepreneur does is to set a goal for his business venture • Information seeking - is always keen about information, has an open mind and always strives to seek for more information about the market, competition, and customers • Systematic planning and monitoring - ability to create a well-organized and efficient plan that is logically sound yet simple or practical. POWER CLUSTER • Persuasion and networking - making people believe in you (or your products and services) • Self-confidence - strong belief upon one's self that you can complete a task no matter how difficult it might become ENVIRONMENT AND MARKET • Business environment - encompasses how you would like to run or operate your business internally and externally, tangible and intangible • tangible factors - are the physical location • intangible factors - provisions for government regulations pertaining to your chosen business ENVIRONMENT FACTORS • Natural and physical environment - refers to the actual, physical location of the business • Demography - to the size or population of your potential market and the diversity of their socio-economic grouping • Culture - refers to the people's way of life • Government regulations - means that you will have to comply with all the regulations and policies set by the different government agencies concerned, both local and national • Economy - effective management of production, consumption and trade of limited goods and services Economic Indicators • Inflation - increase of the general price level of goods and services that could be sustained over a period of time • Gross Domestic Product (GDP) - It reflects the gross domestic income derived from salaries and wages, profits from businesses, and even the taxes collected by the government • Unemployment Rate - percentage of people who are actively seeking a job but could not find one CORE COMPETENCIES IN ANIMATION

and techniques in creating motion pictures or movie • Staging and blocking of characters • Lighting and angles • Shot construction • Character performance OPPORTUNITIES IN ANIMATION • .
