Topic: Cyberbullying

Goals:
 Reflect on the characteristics that make someone an upstanding digital
citizen.
 Recognize activities of cyberbullying.

Standards:
Digital Citizen: Students recognize the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of
living, learning, and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and
model in ways that are safe, legal, and ethical.

permanence of their actions in the digital world.

including social interactions online or when using networked devices.
c. Demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations of

of data-collection technology used to track their navigation online.

Hook: Review of the qualities of a super hero. Invite students to share their favorite
superhero. Think about specific super powers of your favorite superhero. All
superheroes use their powers to help other people. A super digital citizen is
someone who uses technology to learn, create, and participate.

 Explain the difference between a bystander and an upstander.
 A bystander observes a conflict or unacceptable behavior, but doesn not take
part in it.
 An upstander is a person who supports and stands up for someone else.
 Model how to create a character profile of an upstander.

Guided Practice:
 Use storytelling to describe the important role of an upstander in tough
situations.
 Present scenarios and discuss how an upstander character would approach
challenging situations.
