“A Doll’s House” is set in the 1890’s which is the Victorian Era. It was a little difficult

looking for authentic furniture and props especially from Norway. I chose two concept photos;

The first is a blue Victorian doll’s house and the second is the inside of a house during the

Victorian era. I liked the “busyness” of the living room in the authentic photo. It felt very full

and lived in. I also like the dainty feel of the dollhouse so I wanted to combine the two.

I chose a lot of blue because that is the color that reminds me of a dollhouse the most and

just this time period in particular. I have a lot of wooden and blue seating for the furniture in the

home. I didn’t want the furniture to be too gaudy or over the top. I was absolutely in love with

the examples for books I found for the bookshelf. I feel that in a real production we would have

to replicate these authentic bindings because finding authentic victorian bindings is probably

very difficult.

Another obstacle was looking for authentic christmas trees from Norway in the 1890’s. I

have chosen a Norwegian Spruce tree which will be decked out in candles, bows, and red

flowers. I want the tree to be classy and very cheerful. The china set I have chosen reminded me

of a tea set that I played with as a kid so I thought it fit great in my “dollhouse” theme.
