Pick at least 5 foods found in your home that have food labels indicated at the back.
Look at the ingredients list and take note all.
Define, describe the following ingredients labelled. All the advantages and disadvantages.

1. Sardines
Ingredients:
Sardine (Fish), Water, Tomato Paste, Modified Corn Starch, Salt, Sugar, Chili, Flavor Enhancer
(Monosodium Glutamate), Garlic, Stabilizer (Xanthan Gum), Onion.
Sardines is one of the most affordable and easy to prepare food. The main ingredient is the
sardine which is the fish itself called in our local term as “tamban”. Its advantage is that, it is
healthy, economical due to its abundance in our locality, and very cheap. It is rich in Omega-3
fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, calcium, and protein. Disadvantage is that, since It is a canned
food, it has some preservatives and flavor enhancers such as monosodium glutamate, and
stabilizers which has a negative effect in out body if consumed too much.

2. Ketchup
Ingredients:
Tomato Concentrate, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Distilled Vinegar, Corn Syrup, Salt, Onion
Powder, Spice.
Ketchup is one of our favorite dippings especially to fried foods. The main ingredient of ketchup
is the tomatoes. Its advantage in our health is that tomatoes is rich in lycopene, a powerful
antioxidant, with many health benefits, including sun protection, improved heart health and a
lower risk of certain types of cancer. Ketchup has no fat and far fewer calories per tablespoon
which makes it a healthier choice for those trying to cut out added calories. The disadvantages
of ketchup is that it may be high in sugar, sodium, corn syrup, and possibly contains genetically
modified ingredients.

3. Milk
Ingredients:
Milk Solids, Sucrose, Milk Fat, Fresh Milk, Cocoa Powder, Stabilisers, Calcium Carbonate,
Flavouring, Colouring, Emulsifier, Contains Soy
Milk is one of the most convenient food and it is widely available. It's packed with important
nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, B vitamins, potassium and vitamin D. plus, it's an excellent
source of protein. Drinking milk and dairy products may prevent osteoporosis and bone
fractures and even help you maintain a healthy weight. Disadvantages of milk on the other
hand, is that if consumed in higher amounts, it can trigger acne and other skin conditions,
allergies, and lactose intolerance.

4. Corned Tuna
Ingredients:
Tuna Flakes, Soy Protein Concentrate, Water, Soya Oil, Iodized Salt, Spices and Seasonings.
Corned Tuna is a spin-off of fellow canned staple corned beef, promising to deliver its distinct
flavor. It is one of the most convenient foods that any household would get because is easy to
prepare as it goes well with rice, bread, pasta and vegetables. It has the delicious taste of
corned beef combined with the health benefits of tuna. It has less oil, contains lots of tuna, and
is rich in Omega 3. The disadvantage of eating corned tuna since it is a canned good, therefore
it may contain high amounts of sodium which is not good in our health.

5. Bread
Ingredients:
Wheat flour (unbleached), sucrose, vegetable oil (palm), skimmed milk powder, common salt,
dextrose, Baker's yeast, emulsifiers, yeast nutrients (ammonium sulfate, sodium chloride,
calcium sulfate), thiamine (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3), iron
(hydrogen reduced iron), calcium propionate.
The whole grains in whole meal bread have many benefits. They can boost overall health and
help reduce the risk of obesity and various other complications and diseases. It contains fiber
which can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or high
blood pressure, colon cancer and obesity. Bread is high in carbs, low in micronutrients, and its
gluten and anti-nutrient contents may cause issues for some people. Still, it's often enriched
with extra nutrients, and whole-grain or sprouted varieties may bestow several health benefits.
In moderation, bread can be enjoyed as part of a healthy diet.
