Abstract
We are very much familiar with our television sets, DVDs, MP3
players, music systems and many other device that are
controlled by using IR Remote. There are many types of remote
controls available for different devices but most of them work
on around 38 KHz Frequency signal. Sometimes we face a
common problem related to IR TV or other device remote
controls that if it is working or not. We check multiple times to
find if the remote is working or not. Here we are going to make
an IR Remote tester circuit using TSOP1738 IR Receiver sensor
circuit. This TSOP1738 sensor can sense 38 KHz Frequency
signal and can detect any IR signal.

Introduction
IR Remote Tester is simple circuit that can be a good tool to
check whether a remote hand set is working or not.

Components
These are components required to make this project
 IC 7805
 TSOP 1738
 LED
 100 ohm Resistor
 9 volt Battery
 Jumper wires
 Breadboard

Working Principle
Working of IR Remote tester project:
LED is controlled by pressing any key on the remote.
The remote TV/DVD or MP3 remote produce 38KHZ
frequency.
When we press any button of IR Remote then remote sends
some IR pulses of around 38 KHz frequency.
These pulses are received by Tsop1738 sensor, it gives a
LOW signal
Use this LOW output signal to activate the LED. So by
getting Low output signal of Tsop1738 the LED start
glowing, which indicates that the remote control is working
correctly.
Circuit construction
Connect IC 7805 Ground, Output pins to
GND, Vs of Tsop1738 respectively.
Connect a 100 Ohm resistor from Vs pin of
tsop1738 to +ve pin of LED and –ve pin of
LED to output of tsop1738.
Connect 9V battery +ve to Input pin of
IC7805 and –ve of battery to GND of 7805.
Circuit Construction Completed.

Result
The TSOP-1738 is an IR Receiver Sensor, which can be used
to receive IR signals of 38Khz. The sensor operates on 5V
and consumes around 5mA to operate. Normally the signal
pin (pin 3) IC is connected to a microcontroller to analyse the
IR signal received.IC 7805 is used to reduce the voltages from
9 volts to 5 volts.and resistor is applied for the safety of LED.

Conclusions

Understanding how remote controls work, and how

to actually receive data from them has always been a
curiosity of mine. I hope it was for you as well, as it's
no longer a real mystery to me. Most modern remote
controls seem to operate in the same fashion; it's just
a matter of brute-forcing your way through all the
buttons to find their unique signature. A slow process,
but the reward is being able to use the remote to
control whatever you want.
