STRUCTURAL DESIGN ANALYSIS REFERANCE
A. DESIGN CRITERIA
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This specifications list the design criteria used while performing calculations for the design
check of ARGON Tank Foundation.
Briefly described herein are the design approach adopted, various codes used,
materials properties, loads and soil properties. This criterion complies with all relevant
Intenational Code and Standards.
Check if the new applied load (New tank = 85 ton) due to increase tank capacity could be
suppored safely with existing raft foundation.
1.3 MATERIALS
1.3.1 Concrete:
Concrete cylinder compressive strength at 28 days shall be, f'c = 28 Mpa.
for concrete pavement and f'c = 17 Mpa for blinding concrete.
1.3.2 Cement:
Portland cement shall conform to ASTM C150. Sulphate resistant cement Type V shall
be used for concrete pavement.
1.3.3 Reinforcing Steel Bars:
All reinforcing steel bars shall conform to ASTM A615M grade 60 deformed bars
with fy = 414 Mpa.

Therefore, qz= 0.613 x 1.04 x 1.00 x 0.95 x 432 / 1000 = 1.12 KN/M2

e < L / 6, Therefore the Resultant Force is within the middle third
p(max.)/p(min.) = ΣP / AF ± Mc / I
Where:
AF = Area of Footing = L x B = 9.61 M2
M = O.M. = 118.00 KN-M
c = L / 2 = 1.55 M
I = B x L3 / 12 = 7.70 M4
p(max.) is greater than the allowable and even, as per code: If the Vertical Load is
combined with Wind Load, the Allowable Soil Bearing Capacity could be increased by
33 %, Therefore 60 x 1.33 = 79.80 KN/M2 < p(max.). Unsafe
F. 1. Summary Report
2. Conclusion
1. The existing tank foundation is not capable of carrying extra loads due
to Unsafe soil pressure that could lead to differtial settlement and structure failure.
2.To accept extra load , Soil bearing capacity must be improved by replacing the poor soil
with A-1-a Material and apply compaction Test or increase foundation dimensions .
