Communicate information in a variety of formats

This essay talks about different forms of communication. These are Oral (verbal) and written
communication.

Verbal Communication uses words to present ideas, thoughts and feelings. Good verbal
communication is the ability to both explain and present your ideas clearly through the spoken word,
and to listen carefully to other people. This will involve using a variety of approaches and styles
appropriate to the audience you are addressing. It can be formal or informal communication

While written communication is the central to the work of any person providing a service in a
health and social care environment when keeping records and in writing reports. Different types of
communication need different styles of writing but all require literacy skills. A more formal style of
writing is needed hen recording information about a patient.

Effective communication, including active listening, can be hard work. People who work in
health or social care environments tend to enjoy learning about other people and their lives. If health
and social care workers do not develop good communication skills, the effectiveness of their work will
be reduced and things can go wrong. This will not help service users to feel good about themselves and
can lead to worse consequences. Remember, it is important to overcome problems such as those listed
above, communicate effectively, including checking understanding, so that you get the best out of your
interactions with colleagues and service users.
