Introduction

In the midst of this pandemic, there are still rampant issues that are happening that should
be taken into account. As the pandemic continue to grow, most women are suffering. The article
titles ‘The Impact of Covid-19 to Women’ discussed the issues that women are facing this
pandemic, how and why. It was written by the UN Secretary-General himself to spread
awareness that this virus have also affected the lives of women. In the article, it was explained
how the violence against women cases increases and how the economic and social stresses
combined with movement restrictions and cramped homes are driving a surge in gender-based
violence. The unfair treatments to the women health care workers were also discussed and why
women have more exposure to the virus than men. Since we are all affected by this pandemic,
Young women and girls are more likely to be affected. Since most of them lives in poverty, they
are unprivileged in terms of education and health care services and prone to discrimination,
gender-based violence and unemployment. In this time of crisis, responding to this pandemic
should be centered with women in terms of recovery.

Summary
It was stated that even before Covid-19 existed, violence against women especially
domestic violence is already one of the greatest human rights violations. As this pandemic
continues, the cases of violence against women are likely to grow. Since many of these women
are now trapped at home with their abusers and are at increased risk of other forms of violence as
overloaded healthcare systems and disrupted justice services struggle to respond, and with more
people spending time online with movement restrictions in place, online forms of violence
against women and girls in chat rooms, gaming platforms and more are likely to increase. This
dark feature of pandemic is a chance for us to challenge our values, resilience and to share the
humanity inside us in order to survive this pandemic and emerge renewed. Women health care
workers whom still risking their life in this pandemic is a reminder of their essential
contributions these women make at all levels. As they are at the frontlines of the Coronavirus
response, they are paid less than their male counterparts and protective equipment like masks are
designed and sized for men leaving women at greater risk of exposure. This means ensuring that
health care workers and caregivers have access to women-friendly personal protective equipment
and menstrual hygiene products and are afforded flexible working arrangements to balance the
burden of care. We are only starting to understand the impacts of Coronavirus especially
economically, yet the devastating part is that, young women and girls has been affected by
school closures and overstretched health care systems. Out of the total population of students
enrolled in education globally, 1.54 billion children and youth enrolled in school or university,
including nearly 743 million girls. This dark feature of pandemic is a chance for us to challenge
our values, resilience and to share the humanity inside us in order to survive this pandemic and
emerge renewed. In the Global South, where limited social protection measures are in place,
economic hardships caused by the crisis will have spill-over effects as families consider the
financial and opportunity costs of educating their daughters. While many girls will continue with
their education once the school gates reopen, others will never return to school. Education
responses must prioritize the needs of adolescent girls' at the risk of reversing 20 years of gains
made for girls’ education. We are only beginning to understand the economic impacts of
COVID-19, but they are expected to be widespread and devastating, particularly for women and
girls.

Analysis

The article “The Impact of Covid-19 to Women’ written by UN Secretary-General is

focused and informative enough to ignite the world’s awareness regarding the issues that most
women are facing today around the globe. The article is agreeable since it clearly states some
issues that most women want to address in the government and in the society. As the cases of
coronavirus continue to arose, cases regarding violence against women, health care workers and
young women and girls did the same. The article clearly states the problem and it would be better
if there is a solution or an advice on the last part in order for the people to somehow alleviate it,
prevent and respond to these issues. Including the discrimination among women and girls
especially to the health care workers should be included since it also affects how every woman
and girls do their part. The article is also persuasive enough to make people realize and reflect
that inequality is also a major problem that must be taken into account and that both genders are
facing. This article serves as a living document that draws upon the knowledge and experience of
a wide range of experts who support solutions to end violence against women, health care
workers and young women and girls issues, attentive to the country context in which the crisis is
occurring. The pandemic has also heightened the vulnerability of rural women’s rights. The
author has achieved his goal in writing an article that serves as an eye opener to share global
awareness.

Conclusion

The article highlighted how the inequality exists even in the midst of this pandemic and
how it affects every woman and girls. This pandemic can be a way to sparked global awareness
in order for the government to take action and realize that this issue became a barrier in
unleashing the potentials of every woman and girls around the world. In my opinion, it is a
struggle for every woman to be discriminated and feel the inequality as they do their job as a part
of functioning society. This pandemic must not be an excuse in not prioritizing these issues since
these cases can be a barrier in solving and ending this pandemic. Violence against women must
come to an end considering that it is a violation to the human rights and a serious public health
concern, with costs at multiple levels of society. Being in the frontlines due to covid-19 must be
given importance and must not be a struggle for every women health workers due to their lack of
protective equipment and wage gaps. Every young woman and girls must be given a privilege
such as in education, health care services, protection, community engagement and etc. In my
opinion, the government must take action immediately in order to prevent the cases from
increasing. As women and girls experience as lot of struggles and uncertainty especially in the
midst of pandemic, they need use their voices to end the violence and the inequalities, but there
must be an ear that is willing to listen in order for them to be heard.
