• Brick masonry : The art of laying bricks in mortar in


a proper systematic manner to form a homogeneous
mass which can withstand forces without
disintegration.

• Stone masonry : The method of construction of rigid


structure using stones as building units with mortar.
Types Of Brick Masonry
• Brick work in mud
• Cheapest.
• Mud is used to fill up the joints.
• Thickness of mortar joint is 12 mm and max. height of wall
is 4 m.

• Brick work in cement


• cement lime mortar is used to fill up the joints
• Thickness of mortar joint is 10 to 12 mm.
Types Of stone Masonry
• Types of stone masonry :
1. Rubble masonry:
• Rough and undressed irregular stones are used.
• Masonry has wider joints.

2. Ashlar masonry:
• Accurately dressed either square or rectangular stones
are used.
• Masonry has fine joint of order 3mm thickness.
