Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☒ Analyzing ☒ Evaluating ☒ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☒ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) iMovie is a very effective and student enhancing learning tool used
within the lesson. It gives students the opportunity of differentiated learning style that supports all types of
learners. This activity aids to all learners by meeting students’ unique needs such as offering distant learning
opportunities, student paced in which students can playback the video, and it provides support to visual and
audio learners.
Lesson idea implementation: Throughout the lesson, students will identify basic money, their values, and
become knowledgeable in different methods to create one’s value. Therefore, the teacher will assign each
student a chrome book, or broadcast the video over a promethean bored. The movie will be a fun and
engaging way of introducing the content money math. The student will then be tasked to watch the movie
and complete a handout as the movie is played. Once the movie has been played, the teacher can withhold
class led discussion where the students discuss the topic of study and finish filling out the handout they were
previously tasked with. From here, the teacher can elaborate off the student’s new knowledge and provide
new money problems or continually review the new topic. After the teacher has shared her iMovie and
reviewed the concept thoroughly, then the students will be placed in pairs of two. The students will use their
handout and partner collaboration to create their very own iMovie. Within each pair students will be given
one coin to represent and provide further information they can later share with the class. iMovie provides
students a differentiated way of being introduced new content in a fun and exciting way. Not only is using
iMovie fun but it also challenges students to think more critically and move into creative elements on Bloom’s
Taxonomy. In the end, iMovie provides educators a way to become more facilitators and engage in more

individual help to students who need it. This entire lesson will take about 50 minutes to complete.
Importance of technology: Using iMovie gives students the ability of being introduced new content in a more
engaging and fun way. Not only does this benefit students, but it also allows teachers to become facilitator’s
and assist in independent learning and provide more one on one learning if needed. Unfortunately, the
students wouldn’t be receiving the same benefits if iMovie was eliminated. For example, students will
become less engaged when educator’s routinely lecture, and teachers wouldn’t have as much time to assist in
review and independent help. In addition, students wouldn’t be given the opportunity to move up higher on
the end of Bloom’s Taxonomy because the aspect of create would be eliminated. In the end, this technology
gives students room to think more critically and learn more independently.
Inspiration (optional): Inside my lesson idea, I pulled a clip from YouTube “Coins!” by ABCmouse.com. I was
inspired to use this clip because it explained the history of each coin and it showed various ways each coin’s
value can be created. Not only was this video instructional, but it was also fun, age appropriate and very
engaging.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: This lesson idea, was thoroughly thought out with internet safety in
mind. The end goal of this lesson idea is to facilitate and assist students in creating their very own iMovie.
Although using iMovie brings great benefits, we must not turn a blind eye to the danger of using internet
could bring to students. Therefore, I want to assure you that this lesson plan idea is grounded in the
guidelines of internet safety. I will provide bookmarking sites and provide exact links, so students don’t use
any search engine on their own. Furthermore, I will secure the students projects and keep them within the
classroom for parents who don’t feel comfortable broadcasting their video beyond the class.
Reflective Practice: After designing this lesson idea, I am confident that students will not only have fun and
remain engaged, but also learn and challenge them to think critically. Throughout the lesson, students are
granted the opportunity to learn from more than one source, which brings various ways a student can
understand the concept. In order to fully extend this lesson, I could incorporate broadcasting their videos
outside the classroom such as being shared on the school news, with parents’ permission. In the end, I am
excited to present this iMovie to my class and watch the instructional benefits flourish!
