Why have you chosen to do this experience? What observations have you made about the development, interests,
needs of individuals or groups of children in your care?

I have chosen to do this open-ended experience because the children in my practicum site do not enjoy sitting still and
listening to the teacher. They would rather explore things on their own. This gives them the opportunity to learn with
little teacher instruction.

Source of materials:
 All are available at the center/in the classroom
 Provided, in part, by cooperating teacher
 I am providing the following:

Teacher preparation needed before activity presentation, i.e. mixing paint, cutting paper, construction of flannel
board characters, etc.

I will put the materials in containers and put them on the table before I introduce the activity.

Teaching Sequence of the Learning Experience


Set-up and arrangement of materials and equipment

The materials will be set up on the table for the children to explore during free time.

Transition Planning: Describe how the children will transition into the learning experience. Transition in to the
activity (preschool) OR Incorporation of individual child routines (infant/toddler).

The children will transition into the activity by doing “Stretching Stretching” from Transition Magician

Procedure: What is the teacher’s role (what will you do) during this learning experience? What will the children do
during the learning experience? (Remember children are active, hands-on learners!). List all the steps in your activity
using numbers or bullet points, including an introduction and a conclusion.

1. I want this to be a very hands-on and child-led experience so I will just introduce the acitivty by saying there is
a play-dough station at the table for free time.
2. I will hang around that area when there is children in it to ask them questions and further their learning. I
want the children to be in charge of what they do and create with the materials.
3. There are varying levels of ages in the group so each child will have a different experience and I will ask
different questions.
4. The children can build, sculpt, count, sort, classify, describe, and measure with the materials.

The children will help me put the leftover materials back in the appropriate contianers in the art closet. They can take
home their playdough creations if they wish.

The children will transition out of free play with the “Closing with Clothes” transition from Transition Magician.

Notes on Differentiation, Guidance, Family Culture, and other group-specific considerations.

There is quite a big age gap in the children participating in the activity. I will have to be careful of the questions I ask
and make sure they are developmentally appropriate. Each child will have a different experience based on their age.
