SCOPE

This course provides training for aster, chief engineers, officers ad person with immediate with
immediate responsibility for loading, discharging and care in transit or handing of cargo. It comprises
familiarization on the concept of shore base firefighting including its coordination with shipboard
firefighting procedure, basic rescue, first aid and firefighting concept. The course takes full account
of MTC (Maritime Training Council) program no. 97-004 and also, regulation V/1 par. 1 STCW’78 as
amended in 1995.

OBJECTIVE

Provide they hold an appropriate certificate, and are otherwise qualified as dictated by regulation V/1
par.1 of STCW’78 those who successfully completed the course should be able to respond positive
and be able to coordinate effectively to shore emergency organization, special to shore based
firefighting organization/ team in cases of emergencies onboard or in terminal ashore.

ENTRY STANDARD

The course is open to seafarers as art of the entry of the entry standards when taking tanker
familiarization course and/or specialized course on tankers as stated by regulation V/1 par. 1 and 2.2
of STCW’78 as amended in 1995.

COURSE CERTIFICATE, DIPLOMA AND DOCUMENT

Te shore based firefighting training program must be approved by the administration. Seafarers who
successfully completed the course shall be issued with certificate duly endorsed and recognized by
the administration.

COURSE INTAKE LIMITATIONS

The number of trainees should not exceed 24 and practical training should be undertaken in small
groups of not more tan four.

STAFF REQUIREMENTS

The instructor shall have appropriate training in instructional techniques and training methods based
n IMO model course 6.09 (Instructor’s Course)

Staff may be recruited among deck officers and engineering officers who (have served on tanker)
are familiar with the operation and procedures on tanker vessels or have undergone training relating
to the concept to the concept and operation on both base and shipboard firefighting.

TEACHING FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENTS

Ordinary classroom facilities projectors are sufficient for most of the course. However, during the
conduct of practical assessment, the need to demonstrate basic equipments for firefighting is a
necessity.

Therefore, the following equipments must be available:

- Breathing apparatus
- Complete fireman’s outfit
- Neil Robertson Stretcher
- Safety Harness
- Different types of portable extinguishers
- International Shore Connection
