SHORT- MOVIE ADAPTATION GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA


Final Examination

GUIDELINES
1. There must be one (1) entry per section.
2. The movie adaptation must be based from any 21st century (written from 2001 to present) literary piece from the
Philippines or from the world, of any literary genre (fiction prose, poetry, drama, non-fiction prose, etc.).

3. The short movie must be at least thirty-five (35) minutes but not longer than forty-five (45) minutes in duration. Opening
and closing credits may or may not be included in the time frame indicated.
4. Dialogues may be in English, Filipino, or vernacular languages. However, subtitles in English must be provided.
5. All footage must be shot. Taking pre-recorded clips from Youtube, movies or other video clips from external sources is
prohibited.
6. A movie trailer must be provided. It should run from one (1) minute to one and a half (1 ½) minutes.
7. The video must be in MP4 or AVI format.
8. All creative endeavors including but not limited to : scriptwriting, directing, shooting, editing, and musical scoring must be
done by the students.
9. Importing of actor/s and/or actress/es is prohibited. In special cases, the class leader must ask permission from the subject
teacher.

CRITERIA (Points to Consider)

Storytelling
 Does the story have a clear structure and plot?
 Are the characters adequately developed and relevant?
 Is the story engaging?
 Does the film have pace and continuity?

Creativity
 Does the writing and direction use imaginative and creative ways to convey the theme?
 Does the film exhibit the nature/spirit of the “primary” literary piece?

Engagement
 How strongly does the film stimulate thoughts and ideas?
 Does the film provoke and emotional response?

Technical Quality
Cinematography
 Is the camera steady and are the shots framed and focused?
 Are close-up and camera angles used to add meaning to the story?
 Is the lighting and camera positioning visually effective?
Editing
 Does the editing help to clarify the story and enhance the pacing and flow of the story?
 Are the transitions smooth and well-paced or distracting?
 Are the opening titles and closing credits appealing and easy to read?
Audio, Music and Sound Effects
 Does the audio and soundtrack complement the story?
 Is the dialogue and/or narration clear and easy to understand?
 Are the sound effects appropriate to the story?

2. Movie Trailer Submission —April 22, 2019
3. Full Movie Submission —May 6, 2019
4. Movie Screening and Awards Day —May 15, 2019
