SCIENCE WEEK 1

ACTIVITY 1

1. Yes because it has mass and it is solid

2.Yes because it has mass and it is liquid.

3.Yes because it has mass and it is solid.

4. Yes because it has mass and it is solid

5. Yes because it has mass and it is air

6. No because it doesnt have mass and doesnt occupy space.

7.No because it doesnt have mass and doesnt occupy space

Q1. What characteristics do you observe in each sample?

- They all occupy space.

Q2. Do you think each sample occupies space? Write the reason for your answer.

- Yes, except heat and light.

Because it all occupies space and has mass, except heat and light because heat
and light is an energy.
Q3. Describe what happened. Infer why it happened.

- The stone takes up part of the space previously occupied by water

Q4. Does air occupy space? How will you prove it using a balloon (or plastic bag)?

- Yes air occupy space. blowing air inside inflates the balloon

Q5. Does each sample (table salt, water, stone, rice or corn, air) have a measurable mass? Prove
your answer by demonstrating and explaining how you measure the mass of each. Record the
mass.

- mass of samples can be measured, by using weighting scale

Q6. Do you think heat and light have measurable mass? Do they occupy space?

- No, heat and light do not have mass. They do not occupy space because these
are not matter

ACTIVITY 2
1. mass
2. volume
3. density
4. Impenetrability
5. Texture
6. Malleability
7. Ductility
8. Conductivity
9. Flexibility
10. Elasticity

ACTIVITY 3

Q1: tastes salty.

Q2: The salt particles mixed well with the water particles.

Q3: 2 but less than 3 cups.

Q4: less than because you transfer the unmixed to the gratuated cyclinder

Q5: We observed that when the sugar is added into the water and stirred, the sugar
gradually dissolved in the water. The crystal sugar was separated into sugar molecules.
The sugar molecules then attracted the water molecules. For this reason, the volume
of the sugar and water mixture increases as what you have observed in the resulting
volume of the sugar and water mixture. This is also the reason why the taste
becomes sweet and the sugar crystal was no longer visible.

Q6: the food or anything you put food coloring will change into the food coloring you
used. it will not mix properly if you do not mix it.

Q7:  the food coloring drops on the water, as it drops, it spreads throughout the bottle
smoothly. when it spreads, it's starting to loss its color. when dropped on the water, it
spreads in any direction.

Q8: You can observe that when you add the food coloring into the water, you see
that the food coloring was in the motion of slowly spreading into the water until the water
is colored.

Q9: The perfume particles fit into the wide spaces of air particles and are scattered
throughout the room.

molecule of element - It is composed of the same kind of atom.

molecule of compound - It is composed of different kinds of atoms.

molecule of compound - It is composed of different kinds of atoms, Ca and O.

molecule of element - It is composed of one kind of atom, P.

molecule of compound - It is composed of two kinds of atoms - carbon and hydrogen.
