PROCEDURES

1 DEFINITION Carry out a collaborative function with doctors for clients who are
given intra-muscular (IM) drugs

2 PURPOSE so that drug absorption is faster

3 INDICATION Can be performed on patients who are unconscious and do not want
to cooperate because it is not possible to administer the drug orally,
free from infection, skin lesions, scar tissue, bony prominences,
muscles or large saras underneath.

4 CONTRA Infection, skin lesions, scar tissue, protrusions of the bones, muscles
INDICATION or large nerves underneath.

5 PATIENT 1. Confirm the client's identity


PREPARATION 2. Assess the client's condition
3. Notify and explain to the client / family the actions taken
4. Maintain client privacy
5. Client positions

6 TOOLS 1. Gloves 1 pair


PREPARATION 2. Syringe with a size as needed
3. 1 needle sterile (21-23G and 1 - 1.5 inch long for adults; 25-27
G and 1 inch long for children)
4. Syringe tub 1
5. Alcohol cotton in kom (to taste)
6. Pengalas
7. Medication according to the therapy program
8. Nierbeken 1
9. Book injection / drug list

Orientation Stage
7 PROCEDURE 1. Give greetings, call the client by his name (his favorite)
2. Introduce the nurse's names and responsibilities
3. Explain the purpose, procedure and duration of action to the
client / family

Work Stage
1. Position the patient
2. Free / undress the area to be injected
3. Disinfects the skin surface
4. Insert the needle in an upright position (900) to the skin
surface
5. Make aspirations
6. Enter the drug slowly
7. Pull the needle quickly when the drug has entered
8. Pressing the injection site with a cotton swab
9. Help the patient to a comfortable position
10. Observing the patient

Termination Stage
1. Evaluate the client's response
2. Provide positive reinforcement
3. Perform a contract for the next activity
4. End the activity well

8 DOCUMENTATION 1. Record the action taken, date and time of implementation


2. Record the results of the action (subjective and objective
responses) in the notes
3. Document the action in the form of SOAP
