What are the main differences between spinal shock and neurogenic shock?

Spinal shock is the spinal cord response to the inflammation caused by injury.

Nuerogenic shock is a common response of the spinal cord following an injury causes a sudden loss of
communication within the sympathetic nervous system that maintain the mormal muscle tone in blood
vessels walls.

List 3 priority assessments for neurogenic shock.

1. assess for hypotension, bradycardia

2. assess for temperature regulations

3.assess for dependent edema

List 3 priority interventions for neurogenic shock.

1. give phenylephrine to help with hypotension

2. keep the environment temp regulation to the patient by temp. if the pt has a low temp keep the room
warm or maintain a cool environment if the pt has a high body temp

3. change pt position slowly

List 3 causes for autonomic dysreflexia:

1.distended bladder

2.fecal impaction

3.UTI

List 3 priority assessments for autonomic dysreflexia:

1. assess for abdominal distention

2.assess bowel sounds

3.assses for sign and symptoms of internal bleeding

List 3 priority interventions for autonomic dysreflexia:

1.remove impaction: if caused by fecal impaction

2.cath the pt to decrease bladder distention

3. treat uti
