Unit Plan Rationale:

This is a week-long unit plan that focuses on the cardiovascular system. “Students

acquire the attitude, knowledge and skills for the promotion and maintenance of a healthy

cardiovascular system. Students study the pathology of cardiovascular conditions and gain an

appreciation for practicing a healthy lifestyle as it pertains to individual, family, peers and

community” (CTS Program of Studies Description.) Moreover, I hope students find a passion

for sports medicine and continue use this information in their daily lives.

Throughout this unit, I will focus on four main concepts:

 The relationship between rest and recovery

 The link between health and wellness

 Understanding how the body functions during physical activity

 The importance of knowing your body when it comes cardiovascular

illnesses and diseases

I will accomplish them by first teaching students in relevant and engaging ways, as this

information is based on real-world experiences. Second, getting students to apply their

knowledge through partaking in self-directed learning and granting students autonomy over their

education in the different ways they want to represent their findings. Third, designing a

classroom environment that is inclusive and safe for students to make mistakes and grow from

one another will allow everyone to thrive.

Resources that I will use during this unit:

 Chapter 15 Quiz: (online): Summative

 Chapter 22 Quiz: (online): Summative

Students will write a short online chapter quiz based on the chapter 8 and chapter 22

 Cardiovascular Quiz: Summative
 Cardiovascular Unit Exam: Summative

 Kahoot quizzes: Formative

Kahoot quizzes will include previous class materials. This is a fantastic tool to see what areas I need
to go over, and it allows students to see where they are with the class information.

 Exit Slips: Formative

This will be used periodically throughout the unit to test the student's knowledge.

 Chapter 15 Worksheet: Formative
 Chapter 22 Worksheet: Formative

For each chapter, I will give students an activity that allows them to use the textbook as a resource
and study tool. This gets students to think critically and navigate through the textbook and pull
important information out.

 White-Board Relay Race (review game): Formative

White-Board Relay Race will be played as a review for the students upcoming Cardiovascular Exam.
This is an excellent resource for students to be aware of the areas they may need to focus on.

 Students will be given an anatomy booklet for this unit. Everything below will be included in
this booklet (taping chart, injury chart, fill-in-the-blank-notes and labelling diagrams). This
booklet's goal is for students to have all their study resources, notes, and worksheets in one
area and are easy to navigate.
