USE OF IMPERATIVES.
ESTRUCTURE:

There is only one way for each verb, the than is always the base form of the same: the infinitive without “to”.

Form negative: always come before “don’t “


Verb Affirmative Negative
To be Be good Don’t be noisy .
To eat Eat more vegetables Don’t eat junk food .
To study Study hard Don’t study in bed.

USE:

v On of its uses is give advice, suggestions, recommendations.

v They are used to give orders or also to make suggestions.

EXAMPLES:

A. James and Rose are gaining a lot of weight.

B. They should do more exercise every day.

A. I am gaining a lot of weight.

B. Do more exercise every day.


1. Open that door, please.(affirmative). - Abre esa puerta, por favor

2. Don’t open that window, please. (Negative). - No abras esa ventana, por favor

3. Let’s begin the game.(Let’s). - Empecemos el juego


Sequence words
Sound words used to bind two ideas and continue with a narrative.

There are many words used as connectors, for example.

1. First (primero)

2. Then (luego, entonces)

3. After (tras, después, después de)

NOTE: the correct way to use the connector after is followed by :

■ After+noum (sustantivo)

■ After+object pronoun (pronombre personal complemento)

■ After+demonstrative pronoun (pronombre demostrativo)

EXAMPLES FOR USE THE LINKERS

■ First I have a sándwich (Primero yo tomo un sándwich)

■ Then I do my homework (Luego yo hago mi tarea hogareña)

■ After that, I watch TV (Después de eso, yo miro TV)

■ After lunch I go swimming (Después del almuerzo yo voy a nadar). (After + sustantivo)

■ Can I use the telefhone after you? (Puedo yo usar el teléfono después de ti). (After + pron. pers. complemento)

■ After that, can we go home? (Después de eso, ¿podemos nosotros ir a casa? (After + pron. demostrativo)

PHRASES WITH “GET”
It is used to get (in the sense of obtaining), and get ( buy) . As a general idea it has six uses or main meanings.

1. Recibir

2. Coger

3. Llegar

4. Obtener, conseguir, comprar.

5. Cambio de estado (réflexive verbs, becoming, getting on)

6. Phrasal verbs

EXAMPLES:

1. Recibir

• What did you get for your birthday?

• I got some bad news today.

2. Coger

• I’m going to get take a taxi.

• I’m going to get a book to read.

3. LLegar

• What time does the train get to Euston station?

• We must get to the meeting on time .


4. Obtener, conseguir, comprar

• I got my passport last week. (Obtener)

• She got her driving license last week. (Obtener)

• I got a letter from my friend in Nigeria. (Conseguir)

• He gets $1,000 a year from his father. (Conseguir)

• She got a new coat from Zappaloni in Rome. (Comprar)

• We got a new television for the sitting room. (Comprar)

5. Cambio de estado (réflexive verbs, becoming, getting on)

• I am getting old.

• By the time they reached the house they were getting hungry.

• My mother's getting old and needs looking after.

• Don't touch the stove until is gets cool.
