Portafolio unit 2 Family ties

1. Family Relationships Vocabulary

Look up the meaning of words you don’t know in the dictionary and make 20 sentences with
columns A and B. Use possessives (‘s)

2. Ask questions about family relationships and interview 2 classmates to know more about
them, then record the interviews and/or present your classmates’ information in third person.

3. Write a paragraph about your family members and record it in MP3

Read aloud and record in MP3 the following paragraph.

“I have a non-traditional family. Mum and dad

divorced a long time ago, and years later they both

remarried. My father and his second wife had a girl,

so I have a half sister. Her name is Ana. My mother

doesn’t have any kids with her second husband, Mike.

He is a good man. My parents live in another town

and I live with my aunt, Cecilia, my uncle Joseph,

and their son Matt, who is my favorite cousin. My

brother Nick lives in another country. He wants to

be an actor in the future.”

5. Survey three classmates and write their questions and answers to know them better. Record
in MP3 the interviews and/or describe the results using third person

WRITING TASK: E-Mail (15 %)

SITUATION

The host family where you are staying is going to send his/her son/daughter to stay with your
family here in Colombia. The guest sends you an email asking you about the people you live with
and the place where you live. You are expected to answer the email with the information
requested by the guest.

INSTRUCTIONS

Start off by greeting the guest and what you will include in the answer. Remember that this is a
formal situation.

In the second paragraph briefly describe your family including at least the names of the members
that live with you, your relationship, and their occupations.

In a third paragraph, describe the place where you live

In a fourth paragraph give general information about the neighborhood where you live

Then, Say good bye.

The e-mail should be no shorter than 3 paragraphs and no longer than 4.
