1 Overview

This chapter is an overview of the OPCOM100, including the following sections:

 Introduction
 Ordering information

1.1 Introduction
The Raisecom OPCOM100 series, developed on the basis of Wavelength Division
Multiplexer (WDM), include the multiplexer/demultiplexer, add/drop device, and single-dual
fiber converter. The OPCOM100 features high capacity. Independent of services, it can
transmit services transparently. By using the OPCOM100, you can increase communication
capacity and bandwidth to solve the problem of inadequate fiber resources, thus providing a
convenient, flexible, and low-cost solution for network access providers.

1.1.1 Application scenarios

The OPCOM100 is used in the following scenarios:
 Urgent capacity expansion in telecom projects
 Broadband network construction for telecom carriers, enterprises, colleges, and
communities, especially when leasing fiber cables
 Transparent transmission of services on the Storage Area Network (SAN), Local Area
Network (LAN), Metropolitan Access Network (MAN) due to service independence,
thus solving the problem of inadequate fiber resources

1.1.2 Types
The OPCOM100 adopts a passive design and complies with carriers' standards in structure
and dimensions, so it can be widely applied to carriers' networks. It can be installed in the
outdoor Optical Distribution Frame (ODF), fiber optic cross connection box, and Raisecom
fixing panel or cabinet. The Raisecom fixing panel or cabinet can hold devices that comply
with the structure, thus providing compact installation and saving space in the equipment
room.

services in a fiber. The wavelengths at the client side are 1271 nm, 1291 nm, 1311 nm,
1331 nm, 1351 nm, 1371 nm, 1391 nm, 1411 nm, 1431 nm, 1451 nm, 1471 nm, 1491 nm,
1511 nm, 1531 nm, 1551 nm, 1571 nm, 1591 nm, and 1611 nm.
 Be completely transparent to service signals and thus support transmitting services at any
rate.
 Be of good optical performance indexes, such as low insertion loss, high isolation, and
high stability and reliability, without deteriorating transmission quality of optical signals.
 Be passive, and support plug and play without configurations, thus simplifying
maintenance.
 Support point-to-point networking or similar networking as that of the OPCOM100-

3.12.4 Interfaces
 Adopt the LC/UPC interface on the front panel, with the single-mode fiber as the
transmission medium.
 Adopt a single fiber to transmit multiplexed optical signals on the line-side optical
interface.
 The client-side optical interface needs to be connected to optical modules of the BBU
and RRU.
– Each interface transmits 2-wavelength signals with two LC connectors (upper and
lower).
– At the BBU side, connect the upper LC connector to the Rx direction of the optical
module. Connect the lower LC connector to the Tx interface on the optical module;
namely, the Tx wavelength of the optical module must be the same as the wavelength
of the lower LC connector (second wavelength printed on each interface).
– At the RRU side, connect the upper LC connector to the Tx direction of the optical
module. Connect the lower LC connector to the Rx interface on the optical module;
namely, the Tx wavelength of the optical module must be the same as the wavelength
of the upper LC connector (first wavelength printed on each interface).
The OPCOM100-OMU18-LU supports connecting to the 1.25, 2.5, or 10 Gbit/s optical
module, which requires the Tx wavelength and rate of optical modules at the BBU side and
RRU side to be the same.

4 Fiber converter

The fiber converter (PSDU) of the OPCOM100 can convert single fiber into dual or four
fibers without adding or replacing active communication devices, thus avoiding repeated
laying of fiber cables, and saving fiber resources, and saving cost. It can also be used in
emergent communication scenario when a fiber cable is faulty. The passive feature of the
PSDU brings zero-maintenance to carriers.
This chapter describes fiber converters of the OPCOM100, including the following sections:
 OPCOM100-PSDU-A-SA
 OPCOM100-PSDU-A-SU
 OPCOM100-PSDU-B-SU
 OPCOM100-PSDU-C-SU
 OPCOM100-PSPU-2-LU
 OPCOM100-2E-1-SU

4.1 OPCOM100-PSDU-A-SA
The OPCOM100-PSDU-A-SA is a 1310-nm passive single-dual fiber converter. By using a
polarization-independent 3-interface optical circulator, it converts 1310-nm dual-fiber
bidirectional point-to-point transmission to single-fiber bidirectional transmission.

4.1.3 Features
Common features for the OPCOM100-PSDU-A-SA are as below:
 Convert 1310-nm optical signals between single fiber and dual fibers without affecting
transmission performance of the original dual-fiber system, thus implementing 1:2
capacity expansion of fiber cables.
 Be completely transparent to service signals and thus support transmitting services at any
rate.
 Be of good optical performance indexes, such as low insertion loss, high isolation, low
polarization sensitivity, high return loss, without deteriorating transmission quality of
optical signals.
 Be passive, and support plug and play without configurations, thus simplifying
maintenance.
 Be of small size and easy installation.
 Adopt the carrier-grade plastic plug-in encapsulation structure, and support being
inserted into a matching chassis for outdoor use.

4.1.4 Interfaces
Optical signals inside the OPCOM100-PSDU-A-SA follow the route as below:
 RX (Rx at the client side) -> LINE (Tx at the line side)
 LINE (Rx at the line side) -> TX (Tx at the user side)

Targeted at triple-play networks, the OPCOM100-2E-1-SU multiplexes 1310-nm/1490-nm

PON bidirectional service signals and 1550-nm CATV broadcast service signals into a fiber
for transmission, thus integrating three types of wavelengths into one and saving fiber
resources.
In addition, the OPCOM100-2E-1-SU can be used in point-to-point medium- and long-
distance single-fiber bidirectional transmission. The 1310-nm optical signals have a greater
loss than 1490-nm optical signals, so we recommend using two wavelengths of 1490 nm and
1550 nm in medium- and long-distance single-fiber bidirectional transmission.

4.6.7 Networking applications

Triple-play networks
On triple-play networks, the OPCOM100-2E-1-SU multiplexes 1310-nm/1490-nm PON
bidirectional service signals and 1550-nm CATV broadcast service signals into a fiber for
transmission, thus integrating three types of wavelengths into one and saving fiber resources.

ways of bidirectional services
You can use the OPCOM100-2E-1-SU to work on two channels with wavelengths of 1490 nm
and 1550 nm, thus meeting requirements for medium- and long-distance transmission. The
OPCOM100-2E-1-SU can multiplex 1490-nm signals and 1550-nm signals into a fiber for
transmission.
If the original point-to-point transmitter uses 1310-nm wavelength, you can use the CWDM
SFP optical module with wavelength of 1491 nm or use the Raisecom transponder card to
change the wavelength.
The optical channels of WDM devices are reversible, so you can realize codirectional
transmission or reverse transmission of 2 ways of bidirectional services by using the
OPCOM100-2E-1-SU in reconstruction of medium- and long-distance point-to-point single-
dual fiber.
 Codirectional transmission:
– The Tx interface and Rx interface on the 1550-nm transmitter are connected to
interface 3 on 2E-1-SU B and interface 3 on 2E-1-SU A respectively.
– The Tx interface and Rx interface on the 1490-nm transmitter are connected to
interface 5 on 2E-1-SU B and interface 5 on 2E-1-SU A respectively.
– Interface 7 on 2E-1-SU A and interface 7 on 2E-1-SU B are connected to interface 7
on 2E-1-SU C and interface 7 on 2E-1-SU D respectively. Each fiber of the
transmission line transmits multiplexed unidirectional services.
– Connections of the peer device are similar.
 Reverse transmission
– The Tx interface and Rx interface on the 1550-nm transmitter are connected to
interface 3 on 2E-1-SU A and interface 3 on 2E-1-SU B respectively.
Each fiber of the
transmission line transmits bidirectional services.

way of bidirectional services
Generally, the dual-fiber optical interface on a transmitter supports a wide range of Rx
wavelength, so optical modules of different Tx wavelengths can interconnect with each other.
If a transmitter in a pair of point-to-point communication devices uses a 1490-nm dual-fiber
optical interface while the other uses the 1550-nm dual-fiber optical interface, you can use 2
OPCOM100-2E-1-SU devices to convert dual fibers to single fiber, thus saving fiber
resources.

medium- and long-distance point-to-point single-dual fiber for 1 way of bidirectional services
(2-wavelength interconnection).

5 Installation and maintenance

This chapter describes how to install the PSBU, and precautions, including the following
sections:
 Precautions
 Installing device
 Maintenance

5.1 Precautions
When installing the device, pay attention to the following matters:
 The device contains precise optical instruments, so it should be prevented from severe
shock during transport and installation.
 Choose the FOX properly with the same surface as that of the optical interface. Failing
to do this may result in deterioration of transmission performance.
 When connecting or removing the fiber, note laser safety. Do not stare into the optical
interface or fiber end with eyes or through an instrument to prevent eye injury.
 Clean the surface of the fiber before connecting it. Using a contaminated fiber increases
link loss, impacts transmission quality, and even permanently damages the optical
interface; this also generates strong reflected laser at the conjunction point of the fiber,
which severely interferes with transmission of useful signals.
 Use a dustproof cover to cover the idle optical interface to prevent dust from entering
and laser from going out.
