MODULE _: ACTIVITY SHEET NO.

Choosing the right profession isn’t easy. As young as we are, we all have doubts if
this profession we’ll partake is the right one, the one that could bring us the joy of achieving
success. From what I heard from different licensed nurses, this line of work is demanding
wherein all your patients’ needs are catered. You need to give your one hundred percent
effort and attention to everything that you do and to everyone you encountered to fulfill a
good job. As tough as it seems, even with a small salary, as medical practitioners, the desire
to help other people comes in a greater price.

In our subject in Career Advocacy, we were tasked to do an informational interview

to a person who undertook the same course we’ve chosen, which is to do pre-med in
Nursing and work abroad. Kayla offered that she could ask her mom, Mrs. Roselyn B.
Duremdes, to do an interview with us. Kayla gave her the questionnaire and her mom gladly
cooperated with us. Mrs. Duremdes worked as a school nurse in London whose duty and
responsibility is to maintain the health of the students and staff in the school, secure a good
hygiene and cleanliness in all areas, and to administer medicine to the sick. She answered
that the necessary skills for this type of job are ability to give care and comfort, and to
render first aid and CPR in times of need. She says that the most satisfying aspect of this
profession is the feeling when she sees her patient’s pain is relieved when the procedure,
care, and treatment she carried out are effective. Mrs. Duremdes responded that the most
challenging aspect of her job is having a miscommunication with the kids she’s taking care
of, and that she could not understand her patient or could know what they feel, like the
instance of a 1-2 years old child.

Being in this kind of work, you should have the personal characteristics, values, and
attitude in check. “I should be patient, understanding, a sympathizer, and an empathizer in
doing my work and to other people” is what Mrs. Duremdes answered. She believes that
she possesses these skills and says that she loves her job, the kids, and that everything in
her job are easy to manage, and lastly, the people there loves her too. The guiding principles
or belief that made her hold on to her career is that she believes that there’s God above
who owns us and everything, we have no right to go against His will, we need to do what is
right and good in His sight. This belief reflects her in every way. “I am doing an excellent job
in the school and they are contented with my service since I am doing the best of my
abilities. Whatever I do, either good or bad, reflects back to me.”

Lastly, she gave us an advice that boosted up my determination in pursuing what I

know is the one for me. “Be committed and diligent in your goal, no matter how difficult it
is, do not procrastinate. Be prayerful, once you decided to do a certain thing, do it and give
your best. It’s alright to fail, just move on, and do not give up. Ultimately, have God in the
center of everything.”

This activity gave me insights of what it is in it for me in the future. I know that what
Mrs. Duremdes said will help me in the long run. We are in good hands. We must have faith
in the Lord and put trust in His plans.
This is the mission statement and the core values in Mrs. Roselyn Duremdes’ workplace.
