Naksatras Lords Tithis and Yogas
While selecting a suitable day and time for any undertaking, the prevalent Tithi (Lunar day),
Nakshatra (Star constellation in which the moon is placed at that time) and the Yoga
(auspiciousness) are taken into consideration. If you don't have an astrologer to guide you, the
following basic information will help you. Please note that in Vedic Astrology everything has its
functional use. Some days may be auspicious for some things, but inauspicious for other things.
The 27 Nakshatras:
Rohini, Uttaraphalguni, Uttarasadha, and Uttarabhadrapada are FIXED constellations and are
favourable for digging wells, laying foundations or cities, expiatory rituals, planting trees, coronations,
buying lands, meritorious deeds, sowing of seeds, installation of Deities, the building of a temple, or
any other activity desirous of a lasting or permanent effect.
Mrgasira, Citra, Anuradha, and Revati are SOFT or GENTLE constellations good for fine arts,
learning, making friendships, sensual pleasures, decorations, sexual union, wearing new apparel,
marriage, singing and dancing, processions, auspicious ceremonies, festivities, dealings of
agriculture, and journeys.
Ashvini, Pusya, and Hasta are LIGHT or SWIFT constellations and are good for sports, enjoying
items of luxury, starting industries, skilled labour, medical treatments, starting education, starting
journeys, seeing friends, buying and selling, the performance of spiritual activities, decorations, fine
arts, exercise, and for giving or receiving loans.
Arudra, Aslesa, Jyestha, and Mula are DREADFUL stars and are suitable for success in warfare,
invocation of elementals and other spirits, imprisonment, separations, acts of destruction, and the
breaking of alliances with superiors.
Purnavasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanistha and Satabhisa are TEMPORARY, MOVABLE, or QUICK
stars favourable for undertaking travel, acquiring conveyances, gardening, going on processions,
visiting friends, and anything of a temporary nature.
FIXED (steady) stars, this is a favourable nakshatra to perform such things as laying foundations, for
building, careers, relationships, things that you want to be permanent.
SOFT (gentle) stars, favourable for art, dance, music, marital union, ceremonies.
LIGHT (excellent) stars, which give pleasure, sports, giving medicine, starting industries or travel.
SHARP (harsh) stars, tantric incantations, imprisonment, causing separation of friends,
assasinations.
MOVABLE stars, acquiring vehicles, going on procession, gardening.
DREADFUL (cruel) stars, evil schemes, evil deeds, planting ghosts in people, deceit, imprisonment,
setting fires - arson.
You can find it from the table given below. If you know the longitude of the Moon at the time of your birth in your natal chart
calculated according to the Indian/ Vedic system, go to the 3rd column and go down till it lies between the two values given in the
row above and below. Your Nakshatra or star would be the one given in the 2nd column the one at the start of range of longitude of
your Moon.
The 27 Yogas
1 VAIDHRITI
The Yoga is Vaidhriti (Poor Support) -- critical, scheming nature; powerful and overwhelming
mentally or physically.
2 VISHKAMBHA
The Yoga is Vishkambha (Supported) -- prevails over others, victorious over enemies, obtains
property, wealthy.
3 PRITI
The Yoga is Priti (Fondness) -- well-liked, attracted to the opposite sex, enjoys life with contentment.
4 AYUSHMAN
The Yoga is Ayushman (Long-lived) -- good health and longevity, energetic.
5 SAUBHAGYA
The Yoga is Saubhagya (Good Fortune) -- enjoys a comfortable life full of opportunities, happy.
6 SOBHANA
The Yoga is Shobhana (Splendor) -- lustrous body and demeanor sensualist, obsessed with sex.
7 ATIGANDA
The Yoga is Atiganda (Danger or obstacles) -- difficult life due to numerous obstacles and accidents;
revengeful and angry.
8 SUKARMA
The Yoga is Sukarma (Virtuous) -- performs noble deeds, magnanimous and charitable, wealthy.
9 DHRITI
The Yoga is Dhriti (Determination) -- enjoys the wealth, goods and spouses of others; indulges in the
hospitality of others.
10 SOOLA
The Yoga is Shula (Spear, Pain) -- confrontational and contrary, quarrelsome, angry.
11 GANDA
The Yoga is Ganda (Danger or obstacles) -- flawed morals or ethics, troublesome personality.
12 VRIDDHA
The Yoga is Vriddhi (Growth) -- intelligent, opportunistic and discerning; life constantly improves with
age.
13 DHRUVA
The Yoga is Dhruva (Constant) -- steady character, able to concentrate and persist, wealthy.
14 VYAGATHA
The Yoga is Vyaghata (Beating) -- cruel, intent on harming others.
15 HARSHANA
The Yoga is Harshana (Thrilling) -- intelligent, delights in merriment and humor.
16 VAJRA
The Yoga is Vajra (Diamond, Thunderbolt) -- well-off, lecherous, unpredictable, forceful.
17 SIDDHI
The Yoga is Siddhi (Success) -- skillful and accomplished in several areas; protector and supporter
of others.
18 VYATAPATA
The Yoga is Vyatipata (Calamity) -- prone to sudden mishaps and reversals, fickle and unreliable.
19 VARIYAN
The Yoga is Variyana (Comfort) -- loves ease and luxury, lazy, lascivious.
20 PARIGHA
The Yoga is Parigha (Obstruction) -- encounters many obstacles to progress in life; irritable and
meddlesome.
21 SIVA
The Yoga is Shiva (Auspicious) -- honored by superiors and government, placid, learned and
religious, wealthy.
22 SIDDHA
The Yoga is Siddha (Accomplished) -- accommodating personality, pleasant nature, interest in ritual
and spirituality.
23 SADHYA
The Yoga is Sadhya (Amenable) -- well behaved, accomplished manners and etiquette.
24 SUBHA
The Yoga is Shubha (Auspicious) -- lustrous body and personality, but problems with health;
wealthy, irritable.
25 SUKLA
The Yoga is Shukla (Bright White) -- garrulous and flighty, impatient and impulsive; unsteady and
changeable mind.
26 BRAHMA
The Yoga is Brahma (Priest, God) -- trustworthy and confidential, ambitious, good discernment and
judgment.
27 INDRA
The Yoga is Indra (Chief) -- interest in education and knowledge; helpful, well-off.
