Psychological Disorders Research and In-Class Presentation Instructions

Psychological Disorders Research Paper: Each student will have to write a research paper on a
psychological disorder that they will be assigned during the second week of class. All of the disorders are
covered in Chapters 14 &15 of your textbook. The research paper has to meet APA writing criteria. The
general specifications are:
 3-4 pages
 12 point font
 Times New Roman
 Double Spaced
 Reference and Cover Page
The APA standards will be discussed in class along with the research project.

Psychological Disorders In-Class Presentation: Each student will have to conduct research on
a psychological disorder that they will be assigned. All of the disorders are covered in Chapter
15 of your textbook. The psychological disorders presentation has to meet APA writing criteria
(i.e. reference page). A visual aid can be in the form of:
 Tri-Fold Poster (recommended)
 PowerPoint
 DVD

In your research and your in class presentation you must discuss and or research all of the
following aspects:

 Social conditions of the disorder

 Which cultures is your disorder most prevalent
 Specific age/ Onset of the disorder
 Gender specific
 How prevalent is the disorder
 The course that the disorder takes
 Familiar pattern
 Treatment (most effective; old and new) (CBT, psychotropic medications, SSRI’s)
 Symptoms (when you talk about the symptoms you need to be specific, i.e. depression is
a contributing factor to schizophrenia; while alcohol can be a factor or symptom of
depression)
 How long does it take to diagnosis this disorder
 Associated disorders (precursor to a more severe disorder)

You may discuss any other aspect of your disorder that you find interesting. Because you are
required to use APA format when conducting your research, make sure that you have a reference
page with 4 or more references. Your references must come from professional, peer reviewed
or government sites; Yahoo, Google, Wikipedia, Youtube or any other internet search engine is
not a professional site and can’t be used as a reference. You will choose your disorder from the
list provided below.
