PIEZOELECTRIC TRANSDUCERS

This type of transducer generates an electrical voltage, by pressure on a piezoelectric crystal,

which is proportional to the acceleration. A piezoelectric accelerometer can capture signals
between 1 Hz and 15,000 Hz with great precision. These devices are very suitable for taking
vibration data at high frequency, where great efforts appear with relatively small displacements.
Some special transducers can measure much lower frequencies and also much higher ones. The
collection of vibration data at high frequencies is conditioned by the means of fixing the
transducer to the machine.

A piezoelectric velometer is built the same as an accelerometer, but with a signal amplifier that
performs signal integration. As this integration stage is done within the velometer, the signal
output is given directly in units of speed. The velometer takes advantage of the good frequency
response characteristics of an accelerometer, so that it generates a linear output in a frequency
range much greater than seismic velocity waves.

Advantages of the piezoelectric transducer

- Most sensors have a wide frequency range, typically between 2 Hz and 15,000 Hz. It should be
noted that the frequency response depends on the type of sensor mounting on the machine.

- These transducers are very compact, with no moving parts, light and small in size, requiring small
magnetic bases for temporary fixing.
- An external signal conditioner is not required for the ICP (Integrated Circuit Piezoelectric) type
transducer. Although ICP is a registered trademark of PCB Piezotronics Inc. it has become a generic
term for an accelerometer with an integrated amplifier. They are also more accurately referred to
as voltage mode accelerometers.

- They are easily installed with adhesive or screwed on. Magnetic bases are also available for
temporary mounting or special applications.

MAGNETIC TRANSDUCERS.
The magnetic transducers (a type of transducer), are electromechanical elements capable of
measuring the pressure contained in any place. We will explain what they are, how they work,
their advantages over the rest and more.

What are magnetic transducers?

They are a type of electromechanical devices that have the ability to measure the pressure
contained in a place. Electromechanical elements have an elastic mechanical part and an electrical
transducer that generates the corresponding signal. The mechanical part can be a spiral, a
Bourdon tube, which transform the pressure into a force mechanism.

The part of the electrical transducer depends on the instrument that it is. Among these, we find
the magnetic transducer, which is the one we will talk about. There are also two types of magnetic
transducers, depending on the operation.

What is a magnetic transducer for?

Its main objective is the detection of variations in a magnetic field as a response to a change in
physical magnitude. They are usually devices used as speed, position and electric current sensors.
Finally, they are characterized by their possibility for switching over long distances, but with
equipment of a small dimension.
