Reflections/Observations

Petrochemicals are chemicals derived from petroleum or natural gas. They are an

essential part of the chemical industry as the demand for synthetic materials grows
continually and plays a major part in today's economy and society. Petrochemicals are used
to manufacture thousands of different products that people use daily, including plastics,
medicines, cosmetics, furniture, appliances, electronics, solar power panels, and wind
turbines.
It's important to note that the biggest concern about fossil fuel use is
from combustion, turning these hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide and water. So while there
are environmental concerns about petrochemical manufacturing of plastics, it doesn't lead
to a significant release of greenhouse gases that can cause climate change. For example,
the plastic manufacturing is capturing the carbon in an inert form (the plastic) and not
releasing it to the atmosphere.
Petrochemicals are derived from hydrocarbons such as propane, ethane, butane, or
other components separated from crude oil and natural gas liquids. Naphtha - a mixture
of flammable liquid hydrocarbons - is also important in the production of products made
from petrochemicals. After being separated in some sort of distillation process, separated
hydrocarbons can be fed to a manufacturing facility known as a cracker. This cracker works
to break chemical bonds in hydrocarbon materials which allows them to be converted into
more useful chemicals for production. One major petrochemical is ethylene, used to create
polyethylene - one of the most important plastics in manufacturing.
To sum up, petrochemicals plays a huge role on our society. Climate change has
been a big issue worldwide wherein we can say that the innovations on petrochemicals has
been and can be a great help on that matter. I can say that development of petrochemical in
the Philippines will create a big impact on our society in all aspects of human being.

2.2.  AIR SOFT MANUFACTURING PLANT VIRTUAL TOUR

GENERAL

Known for the quality of their products, Tokyo Marui is an airsoft guns and accessories
manufacturer from Japan. The Company was founded in 1965 and they are the ones to
pioneer the design for AEG (Automatic Electric Gun) we know and love today. They were
the first to introduce an airsoft fun powered by an electric gearbox (in 1991) and they are the
ones to create the first battery-powered AEG, the FAMAS F1 (a replica of the FAMAS, an
assault rifle designed and manufactured in France starting with 1946).Tokyo Marui also
designed the 3-gear AEG which is still used today and was copied by other manufacturers.
With the start of a new millennium, Tokyo Marui launched their airsoft guns and accessories
business and nowadays, their products are exported and known worldwide. Furthermore,
some designs are so realistic that some movies even used them as props. A good example
is the movie ‘The Kingdom’, where, in several fighting scenes, you can see the Tokyo Marui
Sig 552 airsoft gun being used by the soldiers. As a bonus and to show that the company
members really understand the fun of playing airsoft, there is a Tokyo Marui field
(called Tokyo Marui BB Sports Field), which has been operational since 2010.

COMPANY WORKFORCE:
TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES:
5,130 (Consolidated total excluding temporary employees)
None specified how many engineers are there.

12
Main services and products

Tokyo Marui started as a toy company and it took them about 20 years to reach their airsoft
guns glory. Still, when they started, they made history, and this is proven by the types of
guns they developed such as:

Tokyo Marui P90-One of the reasons Tokyo Marui is so popular is the bad ass design of
their airsoft weapons! Let us take the P90: this is a highly compact AEG, with a version 6
gearbox and a trans-mounted motor that will make everyone drop their jaw on the field.
Besides the tough design, the rifle has a magazine with fake rounds mounted on top. And if
this is not enough, the RIS rail allows the user to install all sorts of accessories. As you can
imagine, the body is both ABS and metal and the accuracy is spot-on. The P90 supports
semi and full auto firing mode shoots at about 265 FPS and carries a magazine with 68
rounds. TM recommends a 7.4v with Small Tamiya battery, but you can use other designs if
you feel adventurous.

Tokyo Marui MK23-This one is a classic adaptation of the popular MK23, the TM design is
equipped with a fixed slide and a metal silencer (due to the special threading of the barrel,
only KSC branded SOCOM silencers will fit). The look is impressive, and you know the
pistol will be with you for a long time because there are no moving parts that could break
(due to the fixed slide feature). The pistol also features adjustable hop-up and uses green
gas as fuel. It can shoot at a speed of 330 FPS, it holds a magazine of 28 rounds, and it is a
rather large sidearm.

Tokyo Marui Glock 18C-A loyal replica of the well-known real-steel gun, the TM Glock 18C
is one of the smallest platforms that feature the auto and semi functions. The pistol is
lightweight but durable as the body is high-quality ABS plastic and the internals are metal.
This is a gas-powered design that has the authentic Glock markings for a more realistic feel
and look. It’s also equipped with adjustable hop-up (you can only reach it through the slide)
which make it one of the most accurate pistols on the market. While it’s not very powerful

13
(295 FPS), it does have a bit of recoil, which is why I wouldn’t recommend it for an absolute
beginner.

Tokyo Marui Glock 17- Another cool replica of a real-steel pistol (the Glock 17), this GBB is
fueled by gas and has removable phosphorescent sights, which allow you to use it in low-
light conditions. The pistol has a rather low range (45m) and can only fire in semi-auto
mode, but it gets to 295 FPS and has an adjustable hop-up for improved accuracy. Overall,
the TM Glock 17 makes for a great sidearm, especially for someone who is just starting to
wrap their mind around the game. Still, you should watch out for that recoil!

Tokyo Marui Extreme.45- Designed for advanced players, this bad ass GBB is a fantastic
addition to anyone’s collection. It is big, heavy, and feels good when you grip it in your hand.
It also provides plenty of space around the trigger guard, so you can use it with gloves. The
pistol has only full-auto firing mode and you can adjust the accuracy using the integrated
hop-up. Overall, the design is impressive, with a combination of ABS and metal, and
accepts both 134A gas and green gas (for experienced players only). This bad boy shoots at
about 270 FPS, packs realistic blowback action, and has an insane rate of fire (up to 25
rounds per second)! As you can imagine, it’s not a good fit for a beginner, but it will become
a fire-spitting beast in the hands of an advanced player.

3.1. Title: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING IN THE SPACE INDUSTRY
SPEAKER/FACILITATOR: ENGR. PHILLIP KEANE
ORGANIZER: PHILIPPINE SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (PSME)
VENUE: LIVE VIRTUAL WEBINAR
DATE: OCTOBER 02, 2020
REFLECTION:

This webinar that I attended truly is magnificent. It has a lot of topic including the different
Industries experienced by the world and even rocket science had been discussed. I will start
from my own reflection on the Industry topic. From the 1 st Industrial Revolution (1760-1840)
which new materials emerged and also new energy sources and machines, then came the
2nd Industrial Revolution (1871-1914) which the use of petroleum begun and also the
beginning of electrification, and the invention of Internal combustion engine. In this
industrial revolution, rockets also became important because of the world war. Next came
the 3rd Industrial Revolution which can be considered as the start of modern age. Here came
electronics, space exploration, nuclear energy, and computers. And most importantly, the
internet. And now on the present day, the 4 th Industrial Revolution (2000-?) which has smart
devices, the Internet of Things (IoT). I really liked this topic a lot because it clearly shows
the worth of past generations, slowly becoming something even better with time. And
innovation still goes on. And in our current age, space industry is now becoming well-known
in almost all wealthy countries. Who does not want to explore the vast universe that is now
within the grasp of humankind? Who knows what lies ahead of us? Only science can pave
the way for us in this journey ahead. And being a Mechanical Engineering student will
clearly help me along the path towards space industry.

3.2 TITLE: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING IN THE MEDICAL FIELD
SPEAKER: ENGR. GLEN D. ESPENA
ORGANIZER: Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME)
VENUE: FACEBOOK LIVE
DATE: SEPTEMBER 22, 2020
REFLECTION:
The seminar talks about the Ostrea Vent, a low cost and affordable ventilator designed by
Dr. Enrique R. Ostrea. It shows how wide Mechanical Engineering is, in the past people
thought that our job is specific only for Machines but now we can cope up in the field of
medicine. We know that Mechanical engineers create solutions and solve problems, playing
a central role in the design and implementation of moving parts in a range of industries.
Mechanical engineers provide efficient solutions to the development of processes and
products, ranging from small component designs to extremely large plant, machinery, or
vehicles. They can work on all stages of a product, from research and development to
design and manufacture, through to installation and final commissioning. Most industries
rely on a form of mechanical systems and mechanical engineering is thought to be one of
the most diverse of all engineering disciplines. Due to this, there are employment
opportunities in a range of sectors, including: aerospace, automotive, biomedical,
construction and manufacturing. Mechanical engineers can be involved in the management
of people, projects, and resources, as well as the development and use of new materials
and technologies. For us to Help furthermore in the field of medicine we can improve design
of medical machine with the use of CAD using solid works and fabrication thru 3D printing,
troubleshooting of machines used and many more. I can say that Mechanical engineering is
an interesting course and job so many opportunities for us in the real world.

22
3.3.  TITLE: MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEERING IN THE AGE OF INDUSTRY 4.0
SPEAKER/FACILITATOR: DR. CHRISTIAN N. DELLA
ORGANIZER: PSME
VENUE: FACEBOOK LIVE / YOUTUBE
DATE: SEPTEMBER 23, 2020
REFLECTIONS:

Mechanical Design in the age of industry 4.0 is so useful. Because of this pandemic we,
mechanical engineers must adopt in this crisis. So, the design must focus on making cyber
systems and challenge we in arising the physical resources. The rising paradigm of
enterprise 4.0 poses new structures layout troubles on the interface of clever manufacturing,
sturdy and bendy automation, allotted and reconfigurable manufacturing structures,
business lot and deliver chain integration. The layout calls for a brand-new paradigm that
offers with sustainability of product and service, consumer enjoy and human pride
throughout a clever and related fee chain, in addition to the allotted and networked element
of the product awareness process. The speaker tries to tell us where we are at our current
times in our age of industries. The doctor talks about how the future of mechanical
engineering will be and he says that the future of mechanical engineering IS not mechanical
engineering due to the uncertainties and changes in the future. One of this is simulation
engineering that simulates the product design and how it will work and function. Then the
talk spans on from the state of our age on industry to our up to date industry and how
simulation designs are our current trend in mechanical engineering.

OVERALL REFLECTIONS/COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS

We live in the world where we enjoy different products and services that helps us
to have convenience. Those products help us on our daily lives especially those
things that helps us to make our work faster and easier. Sometimes, we can find
pleasure and satisfaction on using it and more importantly those products help us to
be healthy and fit. On this virtual plant tour/ virtual field trip, I will share what I
observed and realized about these things.

An adventure can teach someone something significant about themselves, other

people, or the world in general. Learning should be an adventure. One should be able
to enjoy learning, and to have the curiosity of learning new things. The educational
tour started out as an escape from school for most of us students, bonding with
friends, chance to unwind and of course to learn new things and to gain knowledge at
the same time that we may apply someday even thou its virtually held. The first way
to enhance learning is to focus on practices rather than on numbers. A plant tour
provides an opportunity to observe how work gets done. Even the most lucid
description of how workflows are managed around a shop or how operators use
charts and diagrams to solve problems is no substitute for seeing things happen in
practice. The second way to enhance learning is to make sure the right people are on
the tour: different people will focus on and have insights into different aspects of a
work setting. The third way to enhance learning is to keep an open mind. Much of the
learning that occurs on a plant tour is unexpected. It is not unusual for a visitor to go
to a site intent on observing one process or operation and to end up picking up
excellent ideas in a completely different area.
