Quiz-8

1. Subnet Mask is 255.255.248.0 /21

IP address is 192.168.45.55.

What is the network ID?

 Binary octet value of subnet mask (255.255.248.0) is:-

11111111. 11111111. 11111000. 00000000
Binary octet value of IP address (192.168.45.55) is:-
11000000.10101000. 00101101. 00110111
Implementing AND operation on these two we get;
11000000.10101000. 00101000. 00110111
Again,
Converting (11000000. 10101000. 00101000. 00000000) into decimal we get,
192.168.40.0
Therefore, The Network ID is 192.168.40.0 /21

2. Subnet Mask is 255.255.248.0 /21

IP address is 192.168.40.55.

What is the network ID?

 Binary octet value of subnet mask (255.255.248.0) is:-

11111111. 11111111. 11111000. 00000000
Binary octet value of IP address (192.168.40.55) is:-
11000000.10101000. 00101101. 00110111
Implementing AND operation on these two we get;
11000000.10101000. 00101000. 00110111
Again,
Converting (11000000. 10101000. 00101000. 00110111) into decimal we get,
192.168.40.0
Therefore, The Network ID is 192.168.40.0 /21

3. Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0 /24

IP address is 202.10.133.11.

What is the network ID?

 Binary octet value of subnet mask(255.255.255.0) is:-

11111111. 11111111. 11111111. 00000000
Binary octet value of IP address (202.10.133.11) is:-
11001010. 00001010. 10000101. 00001011
Implementing AND operation on these two we get;
11001010. 00001010.10000101. 00000000
Again,
Converting (11001010. 00001010.10000101. 00000000) into decimal we get,
202.10.133.0 /24
Therefore, The Network ID is 202.10.133.0 /24

4. Write a short note on Fragmentation and Subnetting in IP addressing.

 Fragmentation in IP address is a process that breaks packets into smaller pieces such that
the resulting pieces can pass through a link with a smaller maximum transmission unit
(MTU) than the original packet size.
 Subnetting is the process of separating bits from the HOST part of an IP address in order
to divide the larger network into smaller sub-networks called subnets.

5. Write down the difference in between Unicast, Multicast and Broadcast.

 The difference in between Unicast, Multicast and Broadcast are as follow:-

Unicast Multicast Broadcast
