לָ בְּעִקְבֵי-בַּנָּשִׁים; צְאִי way forth by the footsteps of
, ִגְּדִיֹּתַי- וּרְעִי אֶת,הַצֹּאן the flock and feed thy kids,

,א אֲ ִי חֲבַצֶּלֶת הַשָּׁרוֹן 1 I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of
the valleys.
.שׁוֹשַׁנַּת הָעֲמָקִים
,ב כְּשׁוֹשַׁנָּה בֵּין הַחוֹחִים 2 As a lily among thorns, so is
my love among the daughters.
.כֵּן רַעְיָתִי בֵּין הַבָּ וֹת
כֵּן,ג כְּתַפּוּחַ בַּעֲצֵי הַיַּעַר 3 As an apple-tree among the
trees of the wood, so is my
דּוֹדִי בֵּין הַבָּ ִים; בְּצִלּוֹ beloved among the sons. Under
וּפִרְיוֹ,חִמַּדְתִּי וְיָשַׁבְתִּי its shadow I delighted to sit,
.מָתוֹק לְחִכִּי and its fruit was sweet to my
taste.
,בֵּית הַיָּיִן-ד הֱבִיאַ ִי אֶל 4 He hath brought me to the
banqueting-house, and his
.וְדִגְלוֹ עָלַי אַהֲבָה banner over me is love.
-- בָּאֲשִׁישׁוֹת,ה סַמְּכוּ ִי 5 'Stay ye me with dainties,
refresh me with apples; for I
- כִּי: בַּתַּפּוּחִים,רַפְּדוּ ִי am love-sick.'
. אָ ִי,חוֹלַת אַהֲבָה
,ו שְׂמֹאלוֹ תַּחַת לְרֹאשִׁי 6 Let his left hand be under my
head, and his right hand
.וִימִי וֹ תְּחַבְּקֵ ִי embrace me.
ז הִשְׁבַּעְתִּי אֶתְכֶם בְּ וֹת 7 'I adjure you, O daughters of
Jerusalem, by the gazelles, and
, אוֹ, בִּצְבָאוֹת,יְרוּשָׁלִַם by the hinds of the field, that ye
- אִם:בְּאַיְלוֹת הַשָּׂדֶה awaken not, nor stir up love,
-תְּעוֹרְרוּ אֶת-תָּעִירוּ וְאִם until it please.' {S}
{ }ס. עַד שֶׁתֶּחְפָּץ,הָאַהֲבָה
;זֶה בָּא- הִנֵּה,ח קוֹל דּוֹדִי 8 Hark! my beloved! behold, he
cometh, leaping upon the
,מְקַפֵּץ--הֶהָרִים- עַל,מְדַלֵּג mountains, skipping upon the

earth; the time of singing is
עֵת הַזָּמִיר הִגִּיעַ; וְקוֹל come, and the voice of the
. ִשְׁמַע בְּאַרְצֵ וּ,הַתּוֹר turtle is heard in our land;
,ָיג הַתְּאֵ ָה חָ ְטָה פַגֶּיה 13 The fig-tree putteth forth her
green figs, and the vines in
;ַוְהַגְּפָ ִים סְמָדַר ָתְ וּ רֵיח blossom give forth their

ֵאת שֶׁ ָאהֲ בָ ה, בִּ ַקּ ְשׁ ִתּי, בַּ לֵּילוֹת,מ ְשׁכָּבִ י-ל ִ ַע א 1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul
loveth; I sought him, but I found him not.
.אתיוִ ָ וְ ל ֹא ְמצ,נַפְ ִשׁי; בִּ ַקּ ְשׁ ִתּיו
בַּ ְשּׁו ִָקים,אקוּמָ ה נָּא וַאֲ סוֹבְ בָ ה בָ עִ יר ב ָ 2 'I will rise now, and go about the city, in the streets
and in the broad ways, I will seek him whom my soul
; ֵאת שֶׁ ָאהֲ בָ ה נַפְ ִשׁי,אֲ בַ ְקשָׁ ה--וּבָ ְרחֹבוֹת loveth.' I sought him, but I found him not.
.אתיו ִ ָ וְ ל ֹא ְמצ,בִּ ַקּ ְשׁ ִתּיו
ֵאת : בָּ עִ יר, הַ סֹּבְ בִ ים, הַ שּׁ ְֹמ ִרים,מצָ אוּנִי ג ְ 3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: 'Saw
ye him whom my soul loveth?'
.יתם ֶ ְר ִא,שֶׁ ָאהֲ בָ ה נַפְ ִשׁי
ֵאת,אתי ִ ָ עַ ד שֶׁ מָּ צ, שֶׁ עָ בַ ְר ִתּי מֵ הֶ ם,כִּ ְמעַ ט ד 4 Scarce had I passed from them, when I found him
whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let
-- וְ ל ֹא ַא ְרפֶּנּוּ,שֶׁ ָאהֲ בָ ה נַפְ ִשׁי; אֲ חַ זְ ִתּיו him go, until I had brought him into my mother's

: עָ שָׁ ן,ימרוֹת ְ כְּ ִת,הַ ִמּ ְדבָּ ר- ֹעלָה ִמן,מי ז ֹאת ו ִ 6 Who is this that cometh up out of the wilderness like
pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and
. ִמכֹּל ַאבְ ַקת רוֹכֵל,ְמ ֻקטֶּ ֶרת מֹר וּלְבוֹנָה frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?
סָ בִ יב,שׁ ִשּׁים גִּ בּ ִֹרים--ֹה
ִ ִמטָּ תוֹ שֶׁ לּ ְִשׁ מ,הנֵּה ז ִ 7 Behold, it is the litter of Solomon; threescore
mighty men are about it, of the mighty men of Israel.
. י ְִשׂ ָר ֵאל, ִמגִּ בּ ֵֹרי :לָהּ
ְמל ְֻמּדֵ י ִמלְחָ מָ ה; ִאישׁ, ֻכּלָּם אֲ חֻ זֵי חֶ ֶרב ח 8 They all handle the sword, and are expert in war;

,עֵ י ַנ ִי יוֹנִים-- ִה ָנּ ָיפָה,ה ָנּ ָיפָה ַרעְ י ִָתי א ִ 1 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair;
thine eyes are as doves behind thy veil; thy hair is as a
שֶׁ ָגּלְשׁוּ,ִמבַּ עַ ד לְצַ מָּ ֵת ; שַׂ עְ ֵר כְּ עֵ דֶ ר הָ עִ זִּ ים flock of goats, that trail down from mount Gilead.

:הָ ַר ְחצָ ה- שֶׁ עָ לוּ ִמן,שׁ ַנּ ִי כְּ עֵ דֶ ר הַ ְקּצוּבוֹת ב ִ 2 Thy teeth are like a flock of ewes all shaped alike,
which are come up from the washing; whereof all are
. ֵאין בָּ הֶ ם, וְ שַׁ ֻכּלָה, מַ ְת ִאימוֹת,שֶׁ ֻכּלָּם paired, and none faileth among them.
;וּמ ְדבָּ ֵר נָאוֶה
ִ , תוֹת ִיַ ְכְּ חוּט הַ שָּׁ נִי ִשׂפ ג 3 Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy mouth is
comely; thy temples are like a pomegranate split open
. ִמבַּ עַ ד לְצַ מָּ ֵת, כְּ ֶפלַח הָ ִרמּוֹן ַר ָקּ ֵת behind thy veil.
בָּ נוּי ל ְַתלְפִּ יּוֹת; ֶאלֶף, ָאר
ֵ כְּ ִמגְ דַּ ל דָּ וִ יד צַ וּ ד 4 Thy neck is like the tower of David builded with
turrets, whereon there hang a thousand shields, all the
. כֹּל ִשׁלְטֵ י הַ גִּ בּ ִֹרים,הַ מָּ גֵן ָתּלוּי עָ לָיו armour of the mighty men.
, ְתּאוֹמֵ י צְ בִ יָּה,שׁנֵי שָׁ דַ ִי כִּ ְשׁנֵי ֳעפ ִָרים ה
ְ 5 Thy two breasts are like two fawns that are twins of
a gazelle, which feed among the lilies.
. בַּ שּׁוֹשַׁ נִּים,הָ רוֹעִ ים
א ֶל לִי--ִים
ֵ וְ נָסוּ הַ צְּ ָלל,עַ ד שֶׁ יָּפוּחַ הַ יּוֹם ו 6 Until the day breathe, and the shadows flee away, I
will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of
.גִּ בְ עַ ת הַ לְּבוֹנָה- וְ ֶאל,הַ ר הַ מּוֹר-ֶאל frankincense.

much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of

ַ ְ ֹנפֶת ִתּטֹּפְ נָה ִשׂפ יא 11 Thy lips, O my bride, drop honey--honey and milk
are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is
{ }ס . וְ ֵריחַ שַׂ ְלמ ַֹת ִי כְּ ֵריחַ לְבָ נוֹן, ַתּחַ ת לְשׁוֹ ֵנ like the smell of Lebanon. {S}
. מַ עְ יָן חָ תוּם, אֲ ח ִֹתי ַכלָּה; גַּל נָעוּל,גַּן נָעוּל יב 12 A garden shut up is my sister, my bride; a spring
shut up, a fountain sealed.
: עִ ם פְּ ִרי ְמג ִָדים,שׁלָחַ ִי פּ ְַרדֵּ ס ִרמּוֹנִים יג ְ 13 Thy shoots are a park of pomegranates, with
precious fruits; henna with spikenard plants,

עֲצֵ י- כָּל, עִ ם, ָקנֶה וְ ִקנָּמוֹן,נ ְֵר ְדּ וְ כ ְַרכֹּם יד 14 Spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon,
with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with
.ראשֵׁ י בְ שָׂ ִמים-ָל
ָ כּ, עִ ם, וַאֲ הָ לוֹת,לְבוֹנָה; מֹר all the chief spices.
, בְּ ֵאר מַ יִם חַ יִּים; וְ נֹזְ לִים,מַ עְ יַן ַגּנִּים טו 15 Thou art a fountain of gardens, a well of living
waters, and flowing streams from Lebanon.

ִ 16 Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow

מוֹריִ יתי ִ א ִר--ָה
ָ אֲ ח ִֹתי ַכלּ,אתי ְל ַגנִּי
ִ ָבּ א 1 I am come into my garden, my sister, my bride; I
have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten
יתי יֵינִיִ דּבְ ִשׁי שָׁ ִת-ם
ִ ִ ָא ַכל ְִתּי יַעְ ִרי ע,בְּ שָׂ ִמי-עִ ם my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine
.דּוֹדים ִ ְשׁתוּ וְ ִשׁכְ רוּ,חֲ לָבִ י; ִאכְ לוּ ֵרעִ ים-עִ ם with my milk. Eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink

,דּוֹדי דוֹפֵק ִ וְ לִבִּ י עֵ ר; קוֹל,אֲ נִי יְשֵׁ נָה ב 2 I sleep, but my heart waketh; Hark! my beloved
knocketh: 'Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove,

; ֶאלְבָּ שֶׁ נָּה,אי ָככָה--יֵ כּ ָֻתּנ ְִתּ- ֶאת,פָּשַׁ ְט ִתּי ג 3 I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have
washed my feet; how shall I defile them?
. ֵאי ָככָה אֲ טַ ְנּפֵם,רגְ לַי-תַ ָרחַ צְ ִתּי ֶא
. הָ מוּ עָ לָיו, וּמֵ עַ י,הַ חֹר- שָׁ לַח יָדוֹ ִמן,דּוֹדי ד ִ 4 My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door,
and my heart was moved for him.
,מוֹר-ְדוֹדי; וְ יָדַ י נ ְָטפוּ
ִ לִפְ תֹּחַ ל,ק ְמ ִתּי אֲ נִי ה
ַ 5 I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands
dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with flowing
. כַּפּוֹת הַ מַּ נְעוּל, עַ ל,וְ ֶאצְ בְּ ע ַֹתי מוֹר עֹבֵ ר myrrh, upon the handles of the bar.
,דוֹדי חָ מַ ק עָ בָ ר; נַפְ ִשׁי
ִ ְ ו,ְדוֹדי
ִ פּ ַָת ְח ִתּי אֲ נִי ל ו 6 I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had turned
away, and was gone. My soul failed me when he
,אתיהוּ ִ ָבִּ ַקּ ְשׁ ִתּיהוּ וְ ל ֹא ְמצ--יָצְ ָאה בְ דַ בְּ רוֹ spoke. I sought him, but I could not find him; I called
.אתיו וְ ל ֹא עָ ָננִי
ִ ְק ָר him, but he gave me no answer.
ִהכּוּנִי,מצָ אֻ נִי הַ שּׁ ְֹמ ִרים הַ סֹּבְ בִ ים בָּ עִ יר ז ְ 7 The watchmen that go about the city found me, they
smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls
שׁ ְֹמ ֵרי,ידי מֵ עָ לַי

הַ ָיּפָה בַּ נּ ִָשׁים; ָאנָה ָפּנָה, ֵאנָה הָ ַל דּוֹד א ָ 1 'Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among
women? Whither hath thy beloved turned him, that we
. ָ וּנְבַ ְקשֶׁ נּוּ עִ מּ, ֵדוֹד may seek him with thee?'
,ל ְִרעוֹת-- ַלעֲרֻ גוֹת הַ בֹּשֶׂ ם,דּוֹדי י ַָרד ְלגַנּוֹ ב
ִ 2 'My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the
beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather
. שׁוֹשַׁ נִּים, וְ ִל ְלקֹט,בַּ ַגּנִּים lilies.
{ }ס . הָ רֹעֶ ה בַּ שּׁוֹשַׁ נִּים,דוֹדי לִי
ִ ְְדוֹדי ו
ִ אֲ נִי ל ג 3 I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine, that
feedeth among the lilies.' {S}
; נָאוָה כִּ ירוּשָׁ ָל ִם, ָיפָה ַא ְתּ ַרעְ י ִָתי כְּ ִת ְרצָ ה ד 4 Thou art beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as
Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners.
. ַכּנּ ְִדגָּלוֹת,אֲ יֻמָּ ה
שֶׁ הֵ ם ִה ְר ִהי ֻבנִי; שַׂ עְ ֵר,הָ סֵ בִּ י עֵ י ַנ ִי ִמנֶּגְ ִדּי ה 5 Turn away thine eyes from me, for they have
overcome me. Thy hair is as a flock of goats, that trail
.הַ גִּ לְעָ ד- שֶׁ ָגּלְשׁוּ ִמן,כְּ עֵ דֶ ר הָ עִ זִּ ים down from Gilead.

ְ ,שׁ ִשּׁים הֵ מָּ ה ְמלָכוֹת ח ִ 8 There are threescore queens, and fourscore
concubines, and maidens without number.
. ֵאין ִמ ְספָּר,ַו ֲעלָמוֹת

clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy countenance

ִ כּ ַַתּ like apples;
;ְדוֹדי לְמֵ ישָׁ ִרים
