Building Information Management or BIM is the process of designing, constructing, and operating a

building with the use of electronic object-orientated information, i.e., Building Information Models. BIM
is both a technology and a process. The technology component of BIM helps project stakeholders to
visualize what is to be built in a simulated environment to identify any potential design, construction, or
operational issues. The process component enables close collaboration and encourages the integration
of the roles of all stakeholders on a project.

A virtual model of a physical asset that contains real-time data of that asset during its operation is called
Digital Twin. Digital Twin integrates artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics to create
dynamic digital models that are able to learn and update the status of the physical counterpart from
multiple sources. It provides the opportunity for real-time monitoring and data acquisition. For instance,
the employment of digital twins enables the gathering, generating, and visualizing the indoor
environment of the building of interest. It has been used in some industries where an accurate digital
model of the equipment can be used for predictive maintenance. The use of a digital twin for
performance is critical, and for capital-intensive equipment such as jet engines, it proved to be
successful in terms of cost savings and reliability improvements. Digital twins are helping companies
surpass previous performance levels in various aspects of manufacturing, from the product design phase
to supply chain management. A digital twin merges live data from its physical counterpart with an
interactive visual interface. This offers an unsurpassed level of monitoring
