ideal for environmental power generation

　TDK has released "CeraCharge", an all-ceramic solid-state battery that can

be discharged using compact SMD (Surface Mount Component) technology. We
plan to start mass production in 2018.

　CeraCharge realizes a rated voltage of 1.4 V and a capacity of 100 μAh

(micro ampere hour) with a compact SMD design of a small EIA 1812 package
(4.5 × 3.2 × 1.1 mm) size. It corresponds to the temperature of -20 to 80 °
C. The charge / discharge cycle is said to be possible 1000 times or more
depending on conditions. Currents of several mA (milliamps) can be drawn for
short time or for pulsed operation. With the SMD technology, it is assumed that
the arrangement of batteries is simple, reflow soldering can be performed, and
therefore the production cost of the final product can be reduced.

　Cera Charge does not use electrolyte used for general batteries, and charges
and discharges through ceramic solid electrolyte. Based on laminating
technology like MLCC (Multi-layered Ceramic Capacitor), this technology
 realizes relatively high energy density and minimum volume of conventional
chargeable / dischargeable lithium ion battery, It combines the safety of
multilayered components of the company with the advantages of mass
production. It also says that the use of solid ceramic electrolytes reduces the
risk of fire, explosion, or leakage of liquid electrolytes.

　It is possible to increase the capacitance and voltage by connecting the

components in series and in parallel. This will expand the possibilities of various
applications such as IoT (Mono's Internet) dedicated device, real-time clock,
Bluetooth beacon, environmental power generation system etc.

　TDK は、小型 SMD（表面実装部品）技術を用いた放電可能なオールセラミック固体

電池「CeraCharge」を発表した。2018 年にも量産を開始する予定だ。

　CeraCharge は小型 EIA1812 パッケージ（4.5×3.2×1.1mm）サイズの小型 SMD

設計で定格電圧 1.4V、容量 100μAh（マイクロアンペアアワー）を実現している。－
20～80°C の温度に対応。充放電サイクルは、条件により 1000 回以上可能だという。
短時間またはパルス動作のために数 mA（ミリアンペア）の電流を引き出すことができ
る。SMD 技術により、電池の配置が簡単で、リフロー方式のはんだ付けができ、その
ため最終製品の生産コストを削減できるとする。

　CeraCharge には一般的な電池に用いられている電解液を使用しておらず、セラミッ
ク固体電解質を介して充放電を行う。MLCC（Multi-Layered Ceramic Capacitor）の
 ような積層技術をベースに製造しており、この技術により、従来型の充放電可能なリチ
ウムイオン電池の比較的高いエネルギー密度と最小の体積を実現し、セラミックの多層
コンポーネントの安全性と、大量生産の利点を融合させている。また、固体セラミック
電解質を使用することで、火災、爆発、または液体電解質の漏出のリスクが少なくなる
としている。

　さらにコンポーネントを直列、並列に接続することにより容量と電圧を増やすこと可
能だ。これにより IoT（モノのインターネット）専用デバイス、リアルタイムクロック、
Bluetooth ビーコン、環境発電システムなど、さまざまなアプリケーションの可能性が
広がるとする。
