1 Prior to installation
Prerequisites
The following prerequisites are required to complete the software installation:
● HP ProLiant servers that are configured according to the Hardware Installation and/or Hardware Upgrade
Guide
● Each server should be powered on and connected to the Internet.
● HP Production Pro Labels & Packaging only supports the following Windows software versions:
– Windows 7 SP1
– Windows 10
– Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
– Windows Server 2012 R2
– Windows Server 2019
● Some software programs must be installed prior to the installation of HP Production Pro for Indigo Labels
& Packaging.
There is a separate installer available for these required programs and installation instructions provided in
the next chapter.
NOTE: For a complete list of the prerequisite software programs, see Prerequisite software details
on page 35.
Follow the steps in this chapter to install all the prerequisite software.
IMPORTANT: All the prerequisite software must be installed on the selected servers before installing HP
Production Pro for Indigo Labels & Packaging.
NOTE: The 1 GB connection must be enabled, named ‘External Network’, and have a static IP. The static IP
can either be provided by the customer or recorded before reinstallation.
10. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP\IPv4), and then select Properties.
11. Select Advanced, and then uncheck the Automatic box.
12. Set Interface metric to 40, and then click OK.
13. Click the Advanced menu, and then select Advanced Settings.
NOTE: Some of the prerequisite software might already be installed on the target system. The installer checks
for each required program, and then installs a program only if it is not already available.
1. Download lnp-setup.zip to the System Manager, and then unzip the folder contents.
NOTE: If the installer is downloaded from HP Radar, click the HP Radar Install button to automatically
unzip the files into s:\hp_service\dfe-setup-7.2.
NOTE: Some Would you like to install this device software? messages might display during installation.
Click Install for these messages. If an Activate Windows Firewall message displays, ignore it.
5. Select the appropriate Press Controller (iPC) Hosts, and then click Next.

6. The Ready To Install window opens. Click Install to begin the installation.
The installation starts and progress dialogs are displayed.
7. After defining the IPC, the installer runs the local installation, and then displays the Setup Status for remote
installations.
8. After the remote installation is complete, a status dialog displays. Review the results, and then click Next.
For reference, the remote installation log files are available on the local host in C:\dfe-install-logs\.
IMPORTANT: If remote host installation fails, it might indicate a connection problem between the System
Manager and the remote host.
In this case, copy the dfe-prerequisites-lnp-7.2.exe installer to the remote host. Right-click the command
prompt, select Run as Administrator and then run the installer using the command prompt on the remote
host.. For the supported command line parameters, see Prerequisites installer commands on page 51.
There are three installation options. Choose the option that is applicable for the customer.
● The Standard installation is recommended and should cover most new customer cases.
● The Custom installation should only be used if the customer needs to migrate system data from a previous
system backup.
● The Advanced component installation should only be used to install individual RIP or IPC components as
needed.
IMPORTANT:
● All the prerequisite software must be installed on the servers before installing HP Production Pro for Indigo
Labels & Packaging.
● If you have downloaded the installation files to a USB dongle, only use a USB 2.0 compatible port on the
server to connect.
● Standard installation
● Custom installation
● Advanced component installation
Standard installation
Follow these steps to perform a Standard installation.
1. Enter the following credentials to log into Windows on the System Manager server:
● Username: Unicorn
● Password: HPdfeHPdfe#1
2. Download lnp-setup.zip to the System Manager, and then unzip the folder contents.
NOTE: If the installer is downloaded from HP Radar, click the HP Radar Install button to automatically
unzip the files into s:\hp_service\dfe-setup-7.2.
5. For the Setup Type, select Standard, and then click Next.

For more details on the Custom installation option, refer to Custom installation on page 12.
6. The RIP Hosts window opens. Select the servers from the Available list that will have RIP software installed,
and then click Add to add them to the Install list. Click Next.
NOTE: If one or more servers are not listed in the Available list, they were not detected by the installer. To
add undetected RIPs, select the Add undetected check box, and then type the hostname(s), separated by
commas, for each missing server in the text box. Click Add to add the server(s) to the Install list.
7. If necessary, change the number of RIP instances on each server. Refer to the RIP tables on page 58 to
determine the number of instances to install on each server model.

NOTE: If one or more IPCs are not listed in the Available list, they were not detected by the installer. To
add undetected IPCs, select the Add undetected check box, and then type the hostname(s), separated by
commas, for each missing IPC in the text box. Click Add to add the IPCs to the Install list.
10. The Ready to Install window opens. Check the Install Esko Color Pilot on the System Manager box to install
on the current system. Uncheck the box to install Esko Color Pilot manually on a different system. Refer to
Manual installation of Esko Color Pilot on page 38 for more information.
If a server is not ready for installation, cancel the installation, resolve the issue, and then restart the
installation.
NOTE: Bypass is an option as an Installation method of the software. If Bypass is selected from the
Installation method box, the HP Production Pro for Indigo Labels & Packaging software is installed on all
the servers except the bypassed server. The software will need to be installed on the bypassed server later.

11. Verify that hosts are correct and ready to install, and then click Install to begin the software installation.
12. A Windows Security prompt might display stating that Windows cannot verify the publisher of this driver
software. Click the Install this driver software anyway.
13. After the installation is complete, a status dialog displays the Installation Results. Review the results, and
then click Next.
For reference, the remote installation log files are available on the local host in C:\dfe-install-logs\. If a
server installation failed, select it to review the Selected Host Details and diagnose the issue.
IMPORTANT: If remote host installation fails, it might indicate a connection problem between the System
Manager and the remote host.
In this case, follow the instructions in Advanced component installation on page 18.
14. The InstallShield Wizard Complete window displays. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and
then click Finish.
Wait while the server shuts down and reboots.
15. After the system reboots, log into Windows on the System Manager server using the following credentials:
● Username: Unicorn
● Password: HPdfeHPdfe#1
16. Install the LDK license. For more information, see LDK license installation and troubleshooting
on page 53
17. Use the installation validation utility (installck) to verify that all the components of the HP Production Pro
L&P software installed correctly after the settings are restored. The utility verifies several different job
types and workflow paths.
NOTE: Make sure that the HP Production Pro L&P software is running before proceeding with the
validation.
c. Type installck, and then press Enter to launch the Validation program.
d. As the installck utility runs, a number of messages display in the command window. If all the
messages return an OK value, the installation is valid. Any failure message indicates a problem with
the installation and requires further investigation.
e. Close the Command window.
f. The installck utility generates two test jobs in the system. Open the All Jobs list in the HP Production
Pro L&P interface, select the two test jobs, and then delete them from the system.
NOTE: Although the installck utility is fairly accurate in reporting a working system, it might fail even
if all the components are functioning correctly. For example, the utility reports failure if the default HP
Production RIP Group has been deleted. If the utility reports a failure, you will need to troubleshoot to
determine functionality and test other job types (including customer jobs).
18. HP Production Pro L&P installation is complete. Continue with Post installation on page 21 to complete
the system setup.
Custom installation
Follow these steps to perform a Custom installation.
1. Enter the following credentials to log into Windows on the System Manager server:
● Username: Unicorn
● Password: HPdfeHPdfe#1
2. Download lnp-setup.zip to the System Manager, and then unzip the folder contents.
NOTE: If the installer is downloaded from HP Radar, click the HP Radar Install button to automatically
unzip the files into s:\hp_service\dfe-setup-7.2.

5. For the Setup Type, select Custom, and then click Next.

6. In the Installation Options window, select the Migrate database and configuration files check box, select the
migration backup file created on the original system, and then click Next.

7. The RIP Hosts window opens. Select the servers from the Available list that will have RIP software installed,
and then click Add to add them to the Install list. Click Next.
NOTE: If one or more servers are not listed in the Available list, they were not detected by the installer. To

commas, for each missing server in the text box. Click Add to add the server(s) to the Install list.
8. If necessary, change the number of RIP instances on each server. Refer to the RIP tables on page 58 to
determine the number of instances to install on each server model.

12. When the installation is complete, the Installation Results window opens. Verify that each host installed
successfully, and then click Next.
If a server installation failed, select it to review the Selected Host Details and diagnose the issue. The
installation log files are available in the C:\dfe-install-logs.
IMPORTANT: If remote host installation fails, it might indicate a connection problem between the System
Manager and the remote host.
In this case, follow the instructions in Advanced component installation on page 18.

17. HP Production Pro L&P installation is complete. Continue with Post installation on page 21 to complete

NOTE: The individual IPC and RIP installers do not have interactive user interfaces. They only support command
line parameters.
If the Esko Color Pilot installation was skipped, follow the instructions in Esko Color Pilot Installation Guides to
install the Esko Color Pilot.
6. Right-click the CMD application and select Run as Administrator to open a Command prompt window.
7. Type start dfe-prerequisites-lnp-7.2.exe -xrip, and then press Enter.

NOTE: To get a complete list of the command line parameters supported by the component installer,
type rip-setup-7.2.exe /?, and then press Enter.
12. Select New RIP, and then enter the required information for the new RIP host.
13. Click Save to add the RIP to the DFE client.
NOTE: The installation requires that Windows Update KB2921916. Before installing any additional software,
run Windows Update to confirm that this component is installed.
1. Download lnp-setup.zip to the System Manager, and then unzip the folder contents. If the files are
downloaded from HP Radar, the installers will be in the S:\hp_support folder.
2. Copy dfe-prerequisites-lnp-7.2.exe to the IPC server.
3. Locate ipc-setup-7.2.exe in the dfe-setup-7.2 folder.
4. Copy ipc-setup-7.2.exe to the IPC server.
6. Right-click the CMD application and select Run as Administrator to open a Command prompt window.
7. Type start dfe-prerequisites-lnp-7.2.exe -xipc, and then press Enter.
NOTE: To get a complete list of the command line parameters supported by the component installer,
type ipc-setup-7.2.exe /?, and then press Enter.
12. Enter the required information for the new Press Controller, and then click Save to add the Press Controller
to the DFE client.

4 Post installation
4. In the Advanced Sharing window that appears, select the Share this folder check box and click Permissions.

5. For the Everyone group (or any other group defined by IT), select the Allow check box for the Full Control
option.

Connect to HP IndigoServe
Use the following steps to connect to HP iServe and send the data.
1. Right-click the HP iServe icon in the Windows notification area, and then select Connect.
2. Right-click the HP iServe icon in the Windows notification area, and then select Log Viewer.
3. Verify that the transfer was successful.
Run HP Radar
1. On the server desktop, click Start > All Programs > Indigo Radar, and then select Indigo Radar.
2. The HP Radar screen opens. Click Check for updates.
3. After checking for updates, select the Solutions tab. For each update listed, click Download. The update
files are downloaded to the computer.
4. After the software is successfully downloaded, the Download button changes into an Install button. Under
the Action column for Indigo Radar Vx.x, click Install.
5. The software installation program for the update launches. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete
the update installation.
6. After the software update successfully installs, return to the HP Radar window, and then click Install on the
next update in the list. Repeat this process until all software updates are installed. Close the HP Radar
window.
NOTE: Google Chrome is the recommended browser to complete the DFE provisioning procedure and interface
with PrintOS.
Connect to HP PrintOS
Use this procedure to add a cloud-enabled HP Production Pro L&P self-provisioning device to PrintOS
1. If there is a proxy server on the network, perform the steps in Configure the proxy settings on page 25,
and then continue with step 2.
If there is not a proxy server on the network, continue with step 2.
2. From the Production Pro L&P print server application on the DFE machine, click the HP PrintOS button,
and then click I have a PrintOS account and want to connect this device.

3. Type the User Name and Password for the HP PrintOS account.
4. Under Device Properties, note the Name assigned to the DFE.
The Name value identifies the DFE in the Devices list in HP PrintOS.
5. Click OK to add the device.
After the connection is successful, the HP PrintOS button changes to reflect the connection status ( ).
NOTE: Make sure that Notifications are enabled in PrintOS for the DFE device. HP PrintOS notifications
are necessary to communicate device status, warnings, or errors.
For details, refer to the HP PrintOS Print Service Provider Administrator Guide available under Help in
PrintOS.
If there is not a proxy server on the network, these steps are not required.
5. Click OK to confirm the changes, and then click OK to close the Internet Options window.
This step is optional. If the proxy settings are configured correctly, but the DFE cannot communicate with
PrintOS, perform the following steps.
1. Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click Advanced system settings, and then click Environment Variables.
3. Under System Variables, click New to create a system variable.
4. For Variable name, type HTTP_PROXY_HOST, and then set the Variable value to the correct proxy host
for the customer’s network.
5. Click OK to add the variable.
The following ports must be open to outbound traffic in the firewall in order to enable PrintOS connectivity.

2. When prompted, login to the PrintOS site using the credentials with which you registered the DFE device.
3. The Resource Manager dashboard opens in the Web browser.

5. Wait for the script to finish running, and then close the Command Prompt window.
6. Open Internet Explorer, and then verify that ILO shortcuts were created in the Favorites menu.
3. Click Login. The HP Production Pro L&P requires that a new password is created. Obtain a password from
the customer and then continue.
4. The HP Production Pro L&P main page opens.
6 Add a press
5. The New Press dialog box opens. Type the name of the press in the Press name text box. Type the IP
address or Hostname of the press in the Network location text box.

NOTE: If the RIP utilizes custom fonts or the number of RIP instances has changed, the custom fonts
must be redeployed. Refer to Redeploy custom fonts on page 48.

9. The Edit Press Controller dialog box opens. Locate the newly added press in the Unmapped Devices list,
and then click Add .

10. The press now appears in the Mapped Presses list. Click Save. The press is now mapped to a press
controller.
The following tables provide the details for prerequisite software that must be installed before Production Pro
L&P.

2. Right-click the Command Prompt icon, and then select Run as Administrator.
3. Type cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\esko.
5. Click through the installers accepting the default settings for each software.
6. After the installation is complete, double-click the Esko Color Pilot icon to open the software.
7. Verify that the Esko Color Pilot opens.
8. If a Could not login to Esko server message displays, click OK.
9. The Color Pilot Configuration window opens. Click on the Database button.
10. Select the On local computer option.
11. Click Save and Continue. The Esko Color Pilot opens.
12. Click File, and then select Import.
13. Navigate to Z:\DFEtest\Resources\Esko Color Engine Pilot Color Strategies.
14. Select all of the files in the folder, and then click the Open button.
15. Click the Import All button. After the importing finishes, click the Close button.
16. Click the Convert All button.
17. All of the Color Strategies are converted for use by the Esko Color Pilot.
6. During the script execution, a prompt displays. Type the Unicorn password of the local system.
7. After script completes successfully, restart the System Manager.
8. Open the Color Pilot on the System Manager, and then click Edit.
9. Select Preferences.
10. Select Database.
11. Select On remote computer, and then type the hostname or static IP address of the Esko Color Engine
server.
12. Click Check. A Successfully connected to remote computer message displays.
13. Import a job to the Production Pro DFE.
14. Select the job, and then click Edit .
15. Make sure you can see and use the Esko Color Engine server
16. Verify that the job processes successfully.
Argument descriptions
● archivename: Name of the DFA file. Do not include the extension, .dfa.
● dfainput_folder: path of the folder where the DFA file is stored
● jltoutput_folder: path of the folder where JLT files are written
● KEEPTEMP: Keeps the temporary xml and timg files
● CREATESUBDIR: Creates a subfolder for each JLT file
1. To use a command line, click the Windows icon, and then click Command Prompt.
2. Type cd C:\HP_Support\jlyt\prog\com_win, and then press Enter.
3. Type the command, using the correct information for the variables, and then press Enter.
● Example command: jlyt dfafile C:\HP_Support\DFA cd:\HP_Support\JLT
This command converts the file C:\HP_Support\DFA\dfafile.dfa to C:\HP_Support\JLT\dfafile.jlt.
G Installation maintenance
The HP Production Pro Labels & Packaging software installer supports a Maintenance mode for software repair
or reconfiguration on an existing HP Production Pro Labels & Packaging installation.
IMPORTANT: Maintenance installer options are only available if the software is already installed on the server.
When maintenance is performed, an automated database backup is created on the System Manager server in S:
\Backup\Regular.
Default maintenance
1. Enter the following credentials to log into Windows on the System Manager server:
● Username: Unicorn
● Password: HPdfeHPdfe#1
5. The installer collects all the current configuration data from the installed database, and then displays the
Ready to Install window.

NOTE: Hosts can be bypassed for repair. To bypass a host, select the Host name in the list, and then
change the Installation method value to Bypass for that host.
Advanced maintenance
1. Enter the following credentials to log into Windows on the System Manager server:
● Username: Unicorn
● Password: HPdfeHPdfe#1
4. The Setup Type window opens. Select Advanced, and then click Next.

NOTE: The Modify system components and Reinstall database options are mutually exclusive.
NOTE: If the RIP utilizes custom fonts or the number of RIP instances has changed, the custom
fonts must be redeployed. Refer to Redeploy custom fonts on page 48.
c. The RIP Instances window opens. Update the number of RIP instances for each host as necessary,
and then click Next.

NOTE: If the RIP utilizes custom fonts or the number of RIP instances has changed, the custom
fonts must be redeployed. Refer to Redeploy custom fonts on page 48.
d. The Press Controller Hosts window opens. The installer reads the current configuration from the
database and populates the Install lists.
Update the Install selections as necessary, and then click Next.

e. The Ready to Install window opens. Confirm the Installation method for each host, and then click
Install.

Reinstall database
● If Restore data from backup is selected, the installer restores system data automatically after
the database reinstallation.
● If Restore data from backup is not selected, the database is restored to default values.
Choose the desired option, and then click Next.

c. The Ready to Install window opens. Confirm the Installation method for each host, and then click
Install.

If a RIP uses custom fonts or the number of RIP instances is increasing, use the following steps to redeploy
custom fonts to the RIP(s).
1. After the software installation is complete, open a Web browser, and then log into the DFE with the
following credentials.
● User ID: admin
● Password: admin
The backup and migration of the installed HP Production Pro L&P system is performed automatically unless the
user chooses to bypass the migration process.
● The installer creates the backup file on the System Manager server in the folder: S:\Backup\Migration
● The migration process restores the original System Manager configuration files to the following folder on
the System Manager: C:\DFE_Restore\SM
● The migration process restores the original IPC configuration files to the following folder on the System
Manager: C:\DFE_Restore\IPC
The migration backup consists of the following data:
● Cygnus database backup

The migration and restore process restores the data to the Cygnus database and SNAP and RIP fonts to their
original hosts and destinations.
NOTE: If a RIP utilizes custom fonts or the number of RIP instances has changed, the custom fonts must be
redeployed. Refer to Redeploy custom fonts on page 48.

In most cases, the HP Production Pro Labels & Packaging installation can be completed without command line
arguments.
However, if the use of the Command line is necessary, the installers accept the values listed in the following
sections.
NOTE: To get the list of all supported command line arguments, use the ? command.
● -xsilent=: This command line argument allows for unattended install. It is designed to be used in the
test automated environment.
● -xpwd=: Unicorn account password. Use this command line argument if default Unicorn password has
been changed by the customer.
● -xnovcorn: IPC does not have a VCorn board installed.
NOTE: To get the list of all supported command line arguments, use the ? command.
Prerequisites
LDK product key with the format of 88888888-4444-4444-4444-CCCCCCCCCCCC
NOTE: Hostname changes are not supported after the license activation.
1. Shut down the RIP systems using C:\Users\Unicorn\Print Server Control\Stop HP Production Rip.
2. Open C:\hp\dfe\LDKServer\utils\ldktool.exe.
3. Click More, and then click New License.
4. Click License this computer.
5. Click Have Internet access.
6. Enter the product key, and then click Activate.
7. Click OK on the next two dialogs.
8. An Activation Successful message is displayed.
9. Browse to C:\Users\Unicorn\Print Server Control\, and then click Start HP Production RIP to start the RIPs.
1. Shut down the RIP systems using C:\Users\Unicorn\Print Server Control\Stop HP Production Rip.
2. Open C:\hp\dfe\LDKServer\utils\ldktool.exe.
3. Click More, and then click New License.
4. Click License this computer.
5. Click No Internet access.
6. Click Create. Do not close the ldktool.exe window.
7. Copy <dfe name>.fingerprint.c2v and ldktool.exe to a system with Internet access.
8. On the computer with Internet access, open ldktool.exe.
9. Click More, and then click New License.
10. Click License a different computer.
11. Enter the product key, and then click Activate.
12. A file browser window displays. Select the <dfe name>.fingerprint.c2v file.
13. A file browser window displays. Save the <dfe name>license.v2c file.
14. Copy the <dfe name>license.v2c file back to the DFE system.
15. In the ldktool.exe program on the DFE system, click Locate.
16. Select the <dfe name>license.v2c file.
17. Browse to C:\Users\Unicorn\Print Server Control\, and then click Start HP Production RIP to start the RIPs.
1. Open C:\hp\dfe\LDKServer\utils\ldktool.exe.
2. Click File, and then click Settings.
3. Enter the proxy server settings.
1. Make sure the system clock is set to correct local time and time zone.
2. Activate the license using the instructions for activation without Internet access.
NOTE: If the .v2c file was not saved, contact the regional HP Indigo license provider to obtain a new
license.
NOTE: If the activation fails, then the license file is incorrect. Make sure that the *base.v2c file is selected.
7. Drag the installEskoColorEnginePilot.cmd file to the command line, and then press Enter to start the
installation.
8. Install the software accepting the default settings.
9. After the installation, input the DFE server name as the master.
10. When the Color Engine Pilot opens, click Edit, and then select Preferences.
11. Select Database, and then select On remote computer.
12. In the space provided, type in the address of the remote server, and then click Check.
13. Verify that the remote server is connected correctly, and then click OK.
9. Drag the installEskoColorEnginePilot.cmd file to the command line, and then press Enter to start the
installation.
10. Install the software accepting the default settings.
11. After the installation, input the DFE server name as the master.
12. When the Color Engine Pilot opens, click Edit, and then select Preferences.
13. Select Database, and then select On remote computer.
14. In the space provided, type in the address of the remote server, and then click Check.
15. Verify that the remote server is connected correctly, and then click OK.
