✔ Toyota is a city in Aichi Prefecture located right in the heart of Japan. With a land
area of 918 km², it is the largest city in the prefecture in terms of area.
✔ Although Toyota is famous for cars and manufacturing, 70% of its land is covered by

✔ This 370-year-old weeping cherry is a natural monument of Aichi Prefecture. ✔ Kaminaka is home to about 3,000 weeping peach trees growing in clusters.

japonicum) is located on the northwest slopes of Mt. Iimori, Asuke-Town,

early April, however the period may vary depending on weather conditions.
✔ Cherry blossoms and Thunberg's meadowsweets bloom along a 200-meter-long
promenade in a Japanese-style garden. Known as Yukiyanagi in Japan, the snow-
white blossoms contrast perfectly with the pale pink cherry buds in full bloom.

Autumn Foliage at
Korankei Gorge ⑧ [Asuke]
Known as one of the best spots for
autumn foliage, Korankei Gorge is
visited by about 460,000 people
every fall.

Tomoe River, and a walk will take you
through breathtaking scenery created
by about 4,000 Japanese maple trees in
bright fall colors.
✔ From November 1 to 30, the area
comes to life with the Korankei Momiji
Festival.

Shikizakura Four-Season Cherry Blossoms of Obara ⑨

✔ Shikizakura cherry trees in the Obara area have been receiving more attention from both in- and
outside of Japan, and the area is visited by about 150,000 people every year.
✔ Shikizakura cherries bloom twice a year, in spring and fall, and there are about 10,000 of them in
the Obara area.
✔ Nearby Senmi Shikizakura no Sato features 1,200 shikizakura cherry trees and Japanese maples,
creating an amazing view colored by the pale pink of cherry blossoms and the strikingly vivid red
maple leaves.

Sanshu Asuke Yashiki
Museum ⑫ [Asuke]
✔ Sanshu Asuke Yashiki is a traditional Japanese-style
thatched house modeled after a house belonging to a
powerful farmer in the Asuke area that stood a century
ago. Here, visitors can see demonstrations of weaving,
charcoal making, metalsmithing, and other crafts, buy
the products of these crafts, and try their hands at
weaving, indigo dying, and making bamboo crafts.

Washi no Furusato ⑬ [Obara]
✔ Obara washi paper is a traditional art of the Obara region. This
form of “painting” is created by “drawing” with dyed raw material
of washi paper in a template “frame.”
✔ The museum contains an Art and Craft Center, where you can
try your hand at making washi paper, and a Washi Artwork
Gallery where you can learn about the charms and wonders of
Obara washi paper art.
✔ In the workshop, an expert on Obara washi paper will walk you

✔ A nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional
Buildings, the Old Streets of Asuke is a town of merchant houses that once
flourished as a key stopover on the Chuma Kaido trading route.

Matsudaira-Go ⑳
[Matsudaira]
✔ Matsudaira-Go is the birthplace of the Matsudaira
clan, said to have been the ancestors of the
Tokugawa Clan.
✔ The neighborhood is a home to a number of historic
sites related to the Matsudaira clan, including
Matsudaira Toshogu Shrine, the Matsudaira Castle
ruins, and Kogetsuin Temple, where Chikauji, the
founder of the clan, is enshrined.

artworks on display, spanning from the early modern period to

[ Toyota City Concert Hall ]
✔ This hall is designed to be used only for concerts, particularly classical,
and has 1,004 seats, including the balconies and six wheelchair spaces.
✔ Standing proudly at the back of the stage is a giant pipe organ, a symbolic
feature of the hall. This was the first pipe organ in Asia, and was built by
John Brombaugh & Associates. It was modeled after the baroque-style
organs of northern Germany, and plays majestic sounds with a wide range
of combinations.

✔ With a gable-roofed stage made completely of cypress wood, this theater
will transport you to the world of Japanese classical performing arts.
✔ The stage is built to resemble a Noh stage of the Momoyama period, when
Noh plays were a popular form of entertainment. The lobby is decorated
with details and designs that symbolize samurai lords.
✔ Not only is the theater a great place to enjoy Noh comedies on an
authentic Noh stage, it also hosts events for children and lectures about
Noh comic theater. The theater is also used for other traditional

Matsudaira-Go ⑳ [Matsudaira]
Matsudaira-Go is the birthplace of the Matsudaira clan, said to be the ancestors of the Tokugawa clan. The neighborhood is a home to a number of
historic sites related to the Matsudaira clan, including Matsudaira Toshogu Shrine, the Matsudaira Castle ruins, and Kogetsuin Temple where
Chikauji, the founder of the clan, is enshrined.
The Tenkasai Festival to honor the great deeds of Lord Chikauji, the founder of the Matsudaira Clan who prayed for a peaceful world, takes place in
February. In the festival, men of unlucky ages (ages at which people are said to experience bad luck) clothed only in loincloths fight over a wooden
orb called a mizutama to ward off misfortunes. Their valor and bravery is the highlight of the event.
