Top Hat

We will be using the Top Hat (www.tophat.com) classroom response system in


class. You will be able to submit answers to in-class questions using Apple or
Android smartphones, tablets and laptops. Additionally, we will be using the
custom-built interactive textbook (General Chemistry) within Top Hat for this class.
Only read and do the sections that are assigned. Sections not to be read or done
will be INDICATED in RED before each section.

You MUST purchase the E-text and Platform from the bookstore, the E-text is $60
with the platform costing $30 for 6 months or $48 for 12 months.

Reading Assignments 5%
Homework Assignments 20%

Assignments
There will be two types of assignments; reading and homework (Web). The
reading assignments (5) will be given to you ahead of the topics to be
discussed in the lecture. Each reading assignment will be out of forty marks,
20 marks for correctness in answering the embedded questions and 20
marks for participation.

The homework assignments (Web) are designed to help you understand the
challenging topics and practice your problem-solving skills. There will be a
total of 5 assignments check tophat for beginning and end date.

Exams
There will be one midterm exam on August 6th, 2020, during class time. It
will cover the first three chapters. The final exam will be on Wednesday
August 26th, 2020 and will be comprehensive.

Evaluation
In order to pass the course, you must receive a total mark of 50% or higher,
There is NO added stipulation that you must obtain at least 45% on the final
exam.
