THE FIRST HOUSE

CYCLICAL MEANING
This house has to do with birth, with the initial
emergence of a person as an individual. The
separation from the unconscious mind. In this
part of the cycle we are born, we take human
form.

When a planet transits this house, we start new

things, we get going, there are beginnings. This
stage involves adrenaline, speed, uncertainty,
energy that still has no form, only emphasis to
start what is new.

ASTROLOGICAL DESCRIPTION
- The first house cusp is the ascendent or rising
sign. It is one of the most important points in the
birth chart. It shows the exact degree and sign
that was on the eastern horizon at the time of
birth.
- The first house or ascendent represents the
individual appearance, therefore the rising sign is reflected in the physical appearance:
the type of face and body as a whole. It represents the physical body, health, vital energy, the vessel
to function in the world.
- The sign on the ascendent speaks of how our disposition was when we came out of the birth canal

A planet in the first house is very important, especially when it is in the same sign as the ascendent
(the closer to the ascendent the stronger its influence). These planets become part of the
personality, it is important to accept these functions as your own, as it is not always easy to do so.
The process of discovering the personality has to include incorporating the planetary functions in
this house.

If a person does not accept these planets as their own, they will be surrounded by people or
situations that show these energies. Planets in the first house modify the physical appearance
indicated by the ascendent. For example, Saturn in the 1st house tends to make the figure smaller,
Jupiter on the other hand tends to expand it.

Examples of planets in the first house:

Moon in the 1st house: can give protective, loving, affectionate characteristics. The person radiates
lunar qualities. There is a learning associated with maternal figures and with accepting these
characteristics of protection, care, and emotional contact. There could be an excessively protective
nature.

Sun in the 1st house: has a stimulating and vital effect on the personality. These are charismatic,
visible people, they face life with determination, enthusiasm, and energy. If the Sun has harmonious
aspects, it is likely that the primary environment supports the person’s desire to express their
individuality. It usually indicates a much-anticipated birth or one that attracted attention. A negative
expression of the Sun in the 1st house could be egocentrism, pride, a need to feel constantly
recognised by others.

Libra in the 1st House (Ascendent in Libra): a continuous attempt to bring harmony and balance to
the environment. The person tends to see themselves through the eyes of others, sometimes to the
point of losing their own individuality. There can be considerable physical beauty and charm. The
sign and house where Venus (ruler of Libra) is found will give a complete interpretation. There is a
learning of incorporating Libran aspects as a way of being in the world: connecting with others,
