Dr. Abulad’s discussion of Kong-Zi’s understanding of man is deeply
rooted on the several views formed by the great minds of Western Philosophy like Heidegger, Kant, Rawls, Hegel and Plato. For Dr. Abulad, Kong-Zi’s notion of Great man is an action and path to be undertaken and chosen, however, before we could even land on the right path, it requires the three most important things that a man should possess in forming a refined and purified thought. Education, cultivation and formation are the qualities that a man should developed at his prime, the journey of man towards outside the cavee to be enlightened can be perfectly seen and demonstrated in the determination and sheer will of the people to the pursuit of education, and in this activity of man by learning various things and continuous reflection and contemplation of what he had learned, the man, unconsciously, begins the process of becoming a superior, learned and great man, IN the last part, Dr. Abulad sees a great man as one who is born naturally good, but rather the unity of our thought and purified will leads man to a continuous process of perfection of his thoughts, words and actions, so that can too share he goodness that he had learned with others, and collectively build a nation grounded in peace and harmony.
