Good Morning! Welcome to Aral TarlakHenyo here on RTV Tarlac Channel 26.
Simulcast over DZTC Radyo Pilipino Tarlac. I am JOSEPH P. MANTILES, your
teacher broadcaster for Mathematics Grade Four Today, is the first week of the
Third Quarter and in today’s lesson, we will continue discussing Lesson 1, which is
all about drawing parallel, intersecting and perpendicular lines using ruler and set
ON
square and at the end of the session, you are expected to draw those lines using ruler
CAM
and set square easily. Let us walk through our lesson for today. Are you ready now
to be with me on the next twenty – five minutes? Ok then, I will give you few
seconds to get all your learning materials: worksheets, pen/pencil, notebook, pad
paper, bond papers, ruler and set square. Take your seat properly children and be in
your most comfortable position and learn how to
INSERT draw parallel lines, intersecting lines, and perpendicular lines using ruler and set

CAM square. Okey, grade four learners, let’s get on.
INSERT In the previous lesson taken up with sir Ricarte Maglalang, you have learned that
OFF SLIDE 2
there are three kinds of lines according to their relationship ( Parallel, intersecting
CAM
and perpendicular lines) and you were also able to describe each one of them.
ON TEACHER Let us recall those three kinds of lines by identifying them through my hand signals.
DEMONSTRATION

Let us assume that my two hands are lines and they are to be related to one another.
For those who are watching through RTV CHANNEL 26 and FB Live streaming,
Take a look properly on my hand signals or demonstration and tell what kind of
lines being described or shown. While for those who are listening to DZTC 828,
listen attentively. Are you now ready?

What kind of line is this? If I extend my hand forward or upward straight? Very
good. Take note that parallel lines could be vertical, diagonal or horizontal

CAM What about this? What kind of line is this? If I put my hand over each other or my
hand cross each other? That’s right. They form intersecting lines.

And how about this? If my hand overlap and looks like a cross or plus sign. Very
good. It is perpendicular lines.

You can also find these lines in our surroundings like at home if you have a picture
frame, the two lengths are parallel lines same with two widths of the frame. What
else? Looking at your laptop or cellular phones, you see parallel lines, intersecting
lines and even perpendicular lines.
For today, we are going to create lines by means of drawing them. I want you now
to get your pencil, ruler, and paper and let us have fun drawing lines that are parallel
ON
line, intersecting lines and perpendicular lines. So children, listen or watch and
CAM
learn. I hope you are ready now. First, I want you to recall , to remember, what a
line is
OFF INSERT A line goes on and on in both directions and is drawn with an arrow on each end.
CAM SLIDE 3
OFF INSERT How about a point? You are right it is simply a dot that signifies a location. An
CAM SLIDE 4
infinite or endless number of points comprises a line.

And there are different kinds of lines, you may have a curved line, diagonal line,
ON
dotted line, horizontal line, vertical line, zigzag line, wavy line, outline, parallel line,
CAM
perpendicular line, intersecting line.
OFF INSERT Remember that you name a point using lines by using any of capital letters of the
CAM SLIDE 5
alphabet.
OFF INSERT On the other hand, we name lines by using two of its points or a single capital letter.
CAM SLIDE 6
TEACHER As I have said earlier, today we will be learning about drawing lines that are
DEMONSTRATION
parallel, intersecting and perpendicular. To visualize that.. you may have a paper, or
notebook, or book.. why? Because they all have the characteristics that we need in
order for us to draw the different lines that we will be studying.

ON
Are you ready? All right then, looking at a paper or notebook or book when you
CAM
touch and slide it from one point to the other you create an imaginary line that is on
top and lower part of it and also on the left and right side of it. Very good. You call
the line when you move from the top and below, lines that are parallel… why?
Because the lines will never intersect no matter how far you extend it. let us
illustrate.
OFF INSERT
This time I want you to get a ruler and pencil. Draw two points on your paper.
CAM SLIDE 7
OFF INSERT Connect this point using your ruler to produce a line. Do not forget the arrowheads
CAM SLIDE 8
at the end of each line. We will name this line, Line A.
OFF INSERT
Using a ruler, mark a point one inch above the right end of Line A.
CAM SLIDE 9
OFF INSERT
Do the same this time of the left end of line A.
CAM SLIDE 10
OFF INSERT Connect the marks using a straight line. Let us name the new line as Line B. AS you
CAM SLIDE 11
can observe, we now have two lines that are opposite each other
OFF INSERT and that they have the same distance which ever point you measure them. You call
CAM SLIDE 12
line A and line B as parallel lines, the lines will never touch, the distance of the lines
are always the same. That is why the line formed on top and below of your paper or

notebook or textbook, are parallel lines. Same with the left side and right side of
your paper or notebook or textbook are also parallel lines.
ON I hope you were able to follow how to draw lines that are parallel… to see more
CAM
lines that are parallel, are the opposites sides of your walls, or windows, or door…
the opposite line produced are all parallel lines. Well done! Now how do we draw
lines that are intersecting. You have learned that lines are intersecting if the lines
cross each other.

ON TEACHER Let us visualize and see lines in your surrounding the meet at a certain point, then
DEMONSTRATION
CAM
the lines intersect… very good, if you have two pencils and you overlap them, they
meet at a certain point, they are intersecting. What else? Very good, if you have a
compass, it has a common point, even your scissor. These are all examples of
intersecting line.
INSERT
let us again draw intersecting lines. I want you to draw a line let us name it line C.
SLIDE 13
INSERT
Draw another line which will meet C at any point. Let us name this as Line D.
SLIDE 14
INSERT The point where the two lines meet is called the point of intersection. Let us name
SLIDE 15
this as Point T. Very good! You have just drawn an intersecting line.
ON If you see the corner of the paper, or your cabinet, or your wall … these are
CAM
examples of intersecting lines. Well done again!
ON TEACHER
DEMONSTRATION
CAM
Le t us try now to draw lines that are perpendicular to each other… let us visualize
it first… if you make a plus sign, you are able to create a perpendicular line, why?
Because the two lines that meet or intersect form a right angle. Meaning if lines
intersect and they form right angles, then the lines are perpendicular. So if you draw
a plus sign, the lines produce are perpendicular, draw a letter T or letter H, name it
as line E and F, since the angle produce is right therefore line E and line F are
perpendicular. Draw a cabinet, or a square or rectangle, the lines made are all

perpendicular. So my dear learners, I hope you were able to follow how to create or
draw lines that are parallel, intersecting and perpendicular. To practice what we have
learned will do a simple activity. Follow the instruction and prepare your drawing
materials.
OFF INSERT For your drawing exercise 1, draw parallel lines, Line F and line E. I repeat draw
CAM SLIDE 16
line F parallel to line E. I will give you 20 seconds.
SFX 20 SEC
Time is up. I hope you used your ruler and draw a line above the ruler and below the
ruler, that will be of equal distance… then it is a line that will never meet. You may

ON also try to draw a line then measure a distance of your desire, either one inch or two
CAM inches on both ends of the line then connect the two points to create a line then you
will have line one and line two parallel to each other. Simply name it as Line F and
line E. Well done.
INSERT For the second drawing exercise, draw Line E that intersects line F. Name the
OFF SLIDE 17
intersection as point O. I repeat, draw Line E that intersects line F. Name the
CAM
intersection as point O. I will give you 10 seconds to draw the figure. Go!
SFX 10 SECS
ON Are you done? Wow, very good! If your line looks like an X, then you have a drawn
CAM two lines, Line E and Line F that meet at a common point, O.
INSERT For the last dragin exercise, draw line H that is perpendicular to line I. Again, draw
OFF SLIDE 18
line H that is perpendicular to line I. I will again give you twenty seconds for this
CAM
exercise.
SFX 20 SECS
Time is up. If your drawing looks like a T or a cross then, you are correct, You have
we drawn two lines, H and I, that are perpendicular. Good job. You are now
ON
officially a master in drawing parallel, intersecting and perpendicular lines. With
CAM
this you can now draw bigger figures or shapes, which we will do in our next
activity. Are you excited? Then let us begin.
OFF INSERT Okey children, prepare your drawing materials and work with me. I want you to
CAM SLIDE 19
draw a four-sided polygon where all the sides are equal and the angles formed are

right angles. What do we call this polygon? Very good. It is a square.

What kind of lines do we have?
OFF INSERT
Yes we have 2 pairs parallel lines. We have 2 vertical parallel lines
CAM SLIDE 20
OFF INSERT
And two horizontal parallel lines. We also have 4 pairs of perpendicular lines.

And four
CAM SLIDE 25
OFF INSERT We will now proceed to our activity. First, find the center of the top line of our
CAM SLIDE 26
square. I will repeat. find the center of the top line of our square.
OFF INSERT Then draw a line connected to the left and right corner of the square. Again, draw a
CAM SLIDE 27
line connected to the left and right corner of the square.
OFF INSERT Next, find the center of the left and right side of our square. Again, find the center of
CAM SLIDE 28
the left and right side of our square.
OFF INSERT Draw a line to connect to center of the left and right side of the square. I will repeat,
CAM SLIDE 29
connect to center of the left and right side of the square.
OFF INSERT Connect the center of the left side to the bottom right edge of the square. Again,
CAM SLIDE 30
Connect the center of the left side to the bottom right edge of the square.
INSERT Lastly, connect the center of the right side to the bottom left side of the square.
SLIDE 31
OFF Again, connect the center of the right side to the bottom left side of the square. Now,
CAM view your drawing. What figure or shape were able to draw? Correct children, you
were able to draw two distinct figures, a STAR inside the SQUARE. That is good.
INSERT Let us work together on some of the activities on page…For your assignment, draw
SLIDE 32
OFF on a short bond paper with boundaries of one inch, use ruler, pencil, and colored
CAM pencil or Crayola. Create a design using lines that are parallel, intersecting and
perpendicular.
ON Well, that’s all for now my dear Grade Four learners. I hope you learned a lot today.
