The (B) plant preparation

Tools

• These are the tools you will need during the installation
The (B)plant parts
Choose location

• Before starting the installation choose a location where you can

level the ground easily and dig holes for the pipes

• Also you need to have enough space for all the parts of the
system including the backpacks
Level the ground

• After you choose the location you have to level the ground
• Get rid of everything that could damage your digester

• Check the size of your digester to see if it fits in the location

(B)tiny: 1.2 x 3.5, X=5 m , Y = 2 m

(B)brave: 1.5 x 4 m, X=8 m, Y=2m
(B)best: 1.5 x 6 m, X=8 m, Y= 2 m
(B)clever: 2 x 6 m, X= 8 m, Y=2.5 m
Place the digester
• After leveling the ground place the digester (there are 2
different options )

• For greenhose option 1 (round greenhouse)

1. Place the 2. Cut 3 or 4 pipe 3. Connect each pipe

greenhouse plastic on pieces: piece with a socket to
the ground, so when For (B)brave 1.5m form a circle around
the digester is placed For (B)best 1.5m the digester. To stabilize
on it only 50 cm of For (B)clever 2m them dig them in the
plastic comes out on Place the pipes ground or connect
one side, the rest on on greenhouse material them with a robe
the other than place the digester

• For greenhose option 2 and 3 just place

the digester directly on the ground and
fold back the ends to dig holes for in-
and outlet.
Preparation of PVC Pipeline
• You need approximately 3 meters of 110 mm-diameter PVC
pipe cut like this:

• For the inlet pipe and slurry outlet you should have one of each
of these parts:
Preparation of the pipe

1. Measure the pieces of the pips

2. Cut the large pieces vertically of and the short ones diagonally

3. File the edges of the short pieces of pipe

Connecting the PVC parts

• For the inlet, connect the pipes like this :

• For the outlet, connect the pipes like this:

(Alternative) connecting the PVC
parts

• If you want to add kitchenwaste or other rough material,

connect a T-connection and extend the pipe with a 40 cm
piece.
• This provides an opening in case of blockage. Close the pipe
end to reduce gas losses
Preparing the inlet drum
With flange Without flange
Cut out hole from the bottom of the If no flange is available you will have to
drum – size of the inside of the make your own and you will learn how
falnge + 2 mm diametre to do this during one of our trainings.
To remind you: Prepare the metal
sheet with the star-shapes cut-out
(diameter of the 45° elbow below the
edge where the rubber sits).

Dismantle flange, place one part of

the flange on the big hole and drill
5 mm holes where the screws are
located Place the metal inside the drum with
the hole cut out and push the narrow
end of the elbow through the start-cut
metal sheet and the hole in the drum.

Fix flange with the long end

facing outside by screwing
from inside Wrap rubber around metal spikes and
tighten with hose clamp
Dig holes

• Dig the hole exactly where the

sleeves come down on the ground.
Best is to fold the sleeves on both
ends to protect the digester
• HINT: dig one side, fix the pipe on
the digester and the ground and
then dig on second side

• When digging the hole make sure the

digester can not be damaged

• The hole you are digging should be

35 cm deep and 70 cm wide

• Check the size of the hole by putting

the inlet and outlet pipe into the
respective hole before fixing them to
the digester
• The 45° side must level with ground
Connecting the pipes to the digester

• Slide the inlet and outlet pipe into

the sleeves until it reaches the level
of the white plastic

• Tighten the rubber strap firmly

around the plastic sleeve and the
pipe below the 90° elbow

• You have to be very careful to not

tear the welded sock off the bad in
the corners. If you damage it, you
can make a simple repair like the one
in the picture
Fixing the pipes into the ground
Fixing the pipes into the ground

• Make sure you don't tear the plastic sleeves while placing soil
around the pipes to fix them
• Also fill up the hole underneath the digester bag
• Before fixing the inlet pipe put the drum on the end of the pipe
and make sure it is straight
• The outlet pipe ends above the ground:
(B)brave: 30 cm
(B)best: 35 cm
(B)clever: 40 cm

This measurement determines the maximum substrate level inside

Building the stand for the inlet drum
Connecting the gas outlet

There are two options to connect a gas outlet to the digester:

1. Fix a ball valve on the digester and connect a hose or pipe piece:

2. Connect a gas outlet and add teflon tape on the thread. When
screwing the elbow to the digester, don’t screw too far, end in the
direction you want the pipe to face. To make sure that the connection is
gas tight, follow the order of the fitting.
Connecting the water trap

A gas pipe runs from the digester to the water trap, then to the backpack.
Pipes should be long enough as the digester size increases when filled

2
Connecting the water trap

1. Dig a plastic bottle up to its neck into the ground

2. Fill the bottle with water
3. Connect a T-connection to the digester pipe
4. Connect a piece of pipe that reaches max. 8 cm into the plastic
bottle filled to the T-connection facing down
5. Connect another pipe to the T-connection facing up, which is later
connected to the (B)pack

2
Piping system

1. Pipe from the digester

to the water trap
2. Pipe from the water trap
(fix the pipe on a strong
wood or similar)
3. Pipe connected to the
(B)pack. This part should
be fixed to a wall or
fixed structure

Direction of gas flow:

Connecting the ball valve

1. First ball valve

2. Water trap
Prepare backpack

1. Put some teflon around the

thread of the ball valve
2. Put the washer between
ball valve and flange
3. Screw ball valve carefully
into flange

• Connect a peace of flexible

hose to the ball valve (stays
there forever)
• Use an adapter piece of a
bigger hose to connect it to
the pipeline of the digester
• If necessary use a hoseclamp

• Tie the straps cross-over

to the loops
• Dont strap them too
tight!
Connecting the (B)pack

• You can connect one or more backpacks to the

same gas pipe
• If one backpack is connected, take the pipe straight
to the backpack
• For two or more backpacks: you need one T-
connection and two ball valves with one connected
to each backpack

• For protection against UV, rain, and sharp objects, hang the backpack on the
wall or a fixed structure:

• Combine different hose sizes (like

adapter pieces) if necessary, to connect
hoses gas-tight to the ball valve nipple.
The sizes must fit gas tight (you can use
tape to increase the size of your hose).
If this connection is not gas- tight, the
backpack will not fill up properly!
Greenhouse option 1: roundpipe

• Use ropes to stabilize round pipes to

the inlet and outlet pipe

• Fold the long piece all the way to the

other side

• Put a long piece of wood or pipe onto

the two ends of the plastic and wrap
the remaining greenhouse plastic
tightly around it
• When wrapped up tightly close "wrap"
with laces/cable ties

• Stretch also the 2 ends down and tie

them together with wood and laces to
the ground
• Or with a rope to the inlet and outlet
• Stretch it well for stabilization
Greenhouse option 2: half-round pipe

• Cut 3-4 pipe pieces

• For (B)brave and (B)best: 2.7 m
• For (B)clever: 3.5 m
• Use 30-40 cm metal rods as a peg and
hammer them halfway into the ground

• Slide the pipe ends over the pegs

• Use a rope to stretch the pipes like this and

connect it to the inlet and outlet
• Than cover with greenhouse material

• Close both sides of the greenhose by pulling

all the excess material together and tieing it
real tight so that the greenhouse material is
stretched
• Fix it on the inlet and outlet or burry the
ends

• Weigh down the sides with stones or soil

Building the greenhouse
There are different ways to design and build the greenhouse, depending on:
• Local available material
• Budget of the customer
• Requirements for aesthetics, adaptation to other buildings
• Stability in certain climate conditions (UV, snow, etc.)
Collect slurry

• You can either collect it in a hole

(easyiest way)
• But protect it from small children so
they wont fall into it

• Or you can collect it in a bucket

• It has to be big enough to collect the slurry
of one day

• Or you dig a trench to let the slurry run

to a field or a hole
• This solution has the most nutrient loss
Install the backpack for cooking

• Put the backpack next to a door or a

window
• Run a pipline or flexibel through
door/window to the stove

• Use an adapter hose piece to connect

the pipeline to the hose on the
(B)pack

• You can also connect the backpack to the

kitchen and the backpack to the
digesterwith a T-connection
• 1. pipe to digester
• 2. pipe to backpack
• 3. pipe to kitchen
Install stove

The assembly kit consists of the following parts:

1. Gas Distributor (light green)

2. Burner disc (turqoise)
3. Corregated disc (purple)
4. Elbow (yellow)
5. Mixing pipe (black)
6. Air valve (purple)
7. Nozzle (green)
8. Ball valve (black/red)

Put them together as seen on the right!

• Place the stove stable and on non

flameable surface such as stone
ceramic or a tile

• You can also place the stove on the

ground but make sure the flame is
protected from wind and that the
hose doesnt get hot
