Lesson: Setting Up Rules-Based Availability Check in Global Available-to-Promise (Global ATP)

from the reels, it produces new paper. The sequence of the evaluation is set so that locations
are evaluated first.

1. A location product list is created from the procedures given in the rule.
These procedures can be location determination procedures, product substitution
procedures, and location product substitution procedures.
The sequence of the location products is calculated using the rule control of the current
rule. In this calculation, the requested location product is taken into account.

2. The PDS or PPM substitutions are built on the basis of the ordered location product list.
If a location product is missing in the basic quantity, then it is not included in the check. It
is not included even if there is a row for it in the related PDS or PPM substitution table. For
each location product of the basic quantity, the system searches the PDS or PPM
substitution procedure for suitable entries.
A suitable entry is the same location product. If no suitable entry exists within the PDS or
PPM substitution procedure, then this location product is removed from the basic
quantity. It is left unchecked. If any suitable entries exist in the PDS or PPM substitution
procedure, then complete substitutions (consisting of location product, level, and PDS or
PPM) are added to the results list.

Use of Characteristic Substitution Procedure

Figure 78: Characteristic Substitution Procedure

The characteristic substitution procedure is used to define material substitutions within rules-
based ATP.
For example, in the figure, Characteristic Substitution Procedure, the procedure defines the
quality of a batch-managed material. The customer orders 50 pieces of the product ABC with
the batch quality “Good”. If batches of the requested quality are not available, then the
customer has agreed to accept batches of a lower quality.
There are no batches of the product ABC with the quality “Good”. As a result, in rules-based
ATP, a substitution is carried out with “Medium” and then with “Bad”. A sufficient number of
batches with poor quality are available. These poor quality batches can be used to confirm the
sales order.
