Course Description and Learning Outcomes


Syllabus
The study of business intelligence in organizations allows students to identify benefits of the latest
technology to improve decision-making. Students in this course would learn a modern curriculum
based on the techniques of information systems, data representation, mechanisms for processing
and classification methods, and some data mining tools to enable businesses to make appropriate
decisions in a timely manner. In this course, the students would also acquire skills to liaise with the

senior management and the ability to draft appropriate reports for technical professionals to build
projects
Course objectives:
 Describe the process of decision-making processes in organizations

 Discuss systems and techniques used to analyze organizational data and operational strategy

 List and Analyze Decision Support Systems

 Analyze factors that affect the organizational activities

Prerequisites: MIS 250

C: Delivery of Unit and Timetable


Delivery Mode This course will be delivered as per the timetable for this semester. There
will be nine session of four hours duration each (excluding the final examination). It is the
responsibility of the students to take notes from the lecturer’s presentations during the
lectures. The lecturer will provide a dot point summary of the topics of lectures through
available means. Most of the lecture material is drawn from the textbook, which is the
primary reference for the unit. Some lecturer material is prepared by the lecturer himself
where as some other material comes from other sources, for which the students would be
provided with adequate references.

Test 1 & 2
These will be quizzes based mainly on multiple choice questions, and no material will be
allowed during the examination. These quizzes would be of 50 minutes of duration. The
syllabus for these quizzes will be announced during the lecture sessions.

Case Studies & Class Performance


Case studies will be chosen from the textbook and students will study these cases studies
and provide answers to the questions associated with the case studies to be decided by
the lecturer. Individual participation performance during the lectures will be monitored
and assed. This item will include class attendance as well as. An absence in a session will
cause a loss of 1 mark.

Final Examination
This will be a closed book examination and will be for duration of two hours based on
multiple choice as well as descriptive questions. The examination will be conducted as per
the university examination schedule.

Assessment of your individual participation in group-assignments


The lecturer may use a number of methods to determine individual participation of
students for their group work. Based on the participation, individual marks in the same
group of students may be different. Details of these methods will be provided
during the lectures.

F: Additional Requirements

 Attendance Requirements
This course will be delivered on campus with weekly lecture sessions. Anybody
abstaining for more than 20% or more than two lectures on non-medical reasons
will be given a DN grade. Attendance is also an important factor for class
performance assessment
