Romeo & Juliet

Act III
Critical Thinking Response Journal

Choose one of the following prompts to respond to on a separate piece of

paper in journal format (i.e. 150 words min.). Be sure to support your ideas
with plenty of elaboration either from your own experience and/or from the
text – whatever the prompt requires.

A. Write a response to one (or both) of the following questions:

What if…
Juliet had been honest with her parents about her feelings
for Romeo?

Romeo had approached the Capulet family and asked for

forgiveness for his part in Tybalt’s death?

B. Frequently, teenagers don’t want to reveal their true feelings to their

parents. How and why does Juliet hide her feelings from her parents?
Relate an incident in which you hid your true feelings and why you
felt the need to do so.

C. From what you know of Capulet, what kind of father do you think he
is? How would you describe his relationship with his daughter? How
does he compare to your own father?

D. Parents are often the causes of what they perceive as their children’s
bad behavior. Write an advice column suggesting some ideas adults
could follow to make their relationship with their teen more
productive.

E. Are you the master of your own destiny; or do you believe, as Romeo
and Juliet appear to, that you are at fate’s whim? Explain your
answer.
