A General Requirements

Depressurization is done slowly and safely after completion of test or on

GI-002.102,
A1 discovery of leaks. Bleed off the system slowly to an approved safe

discharge area and monitor discharge.

Inspection ensures written procedures approved prior to testing are

followed upon disposal of any test medium containing chemical additives GI-002.102,
A2
for control of corrosion and bacteria. Section 5.2.7
Disposal methods follow SAEP-327, Section 4 requirements.

B Specific Disposal Requirements

New pipelines, and pipelines in gas service do not require oil/water SAEP-327,

Disposal
structures to the Marine Environment
Dispose wastewater to the marine environment to the Arabian Gulf or Red
Sea in accordance with the criteria in Table 1 and SAES-A-103. Ensure
SAEP-327,
B4 adequate dispersal of wastewater in the marine environment by
Section 4.10
employing diffusers or similar technologies. Alternatively, transfer
wastewater onshore for treatment/disposal as per Sections 4.3 through
4.8.
Previously Used Approved Pond
Disposal to existing, previously used evaporation ponds requires
evaluation as a new disposal request. The volume, water quality, and SAEP-327,
B5
potential for contamination from additional disposal require a separate Section 4.9
evaluation as per this procedure.

Disposal to an Evaporation Pond

Oil/water separator ponds (Figure 1) are required upstream of evaporation
ponds (Figure 2) to collect residual hydrocarbon and improve evaporation SAEP-327,
B6
in the evaporation ponds. Evaporation ponds must meet the requirements Section 4.7
of SAES-A-104 Section 15.2. New evaporation ponds may require an
environmental impact assessment per SAEP-13.
Disposal to Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant
Discharge wastewater directly to the local industrial wastewater treatment
plant if disposal does not affect the normal operations of the plant. Obtain SAEP-327,
B7
concurrence from the operator of the treatment plant prior to selection of Section 4.8
this disposal option. Disposal to Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant
must meet the requirements of SAES-A-104.
