a competitive economy and a broad digital technology proficient population, the Philippines
is a fast-growing e-commerce market in Southeast Asia. Multiple websites and digital apps with global,
regional and national players are already battling for market share. Although the market is rising both in
size and in variety, as the range of goods purchased also diversifies, Lazada the hegemonic leader of
Philippine e-commerce and a leader of e-commerce in Southeast Asia, still has to face established
players and newcomers.

Amazon acquires while Alibaba invests. Alibaba has taken a minority stake in twice as many businesses
as Amazon outside the US and China though amazon has gained 5x more businesses than Alibaba. North
America and Europe are currently controlled by Amazon, while Alibaba dominates China and has
developed a network of strategic alliances and investments in Southeast Asia.
