TABLE 3.

25: Percentage Distribution of Households in

Brgy. Atlu-bola, Mabalacat City as to Type of Drainage System

TYPE FREQUENCY PERCENTAGE

OPEN 333 43.87
BLIND 426 56.13
TOTAL 759 100

DEFINITION OF TERMS
 DRAINAGE SYSTEM – It includes the appropriate facilities for collecting
waste water inside the home, such as floodwater, rainwater, and other waste
water that we use.

 BLIND DRAINAGE SYSTEM – This is a form of drainage system in which

wastewater is channeled through a network of closed pipes to an underground
pit or covered canal.

 OPEN DRAINAGE SYSTEM – Wastewater is transported into a network of

pipes (which may be made of bamboo) to an open pit canal.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

As per the table, 333 (43.87%) have an open drainage systems while 426
(56.13 %) are comprised of households with closed drainage systems. Majority of the
houses in Brgy. Atlu-bola is using blind drainage which is good because open
drainage can serve as a breeding sites of vectors and it may include criteria for many
health problems due to the bad odor and bacteria that it may produce. Open drainage
system can also pose risks and accidents to children.

HEALTH IMPLICATIONS

The use of a blind drainage system reduces the risk of having communicable
diseases, which is a good sign because it may not be a potential breeding ground for
vectors such as rats and mosquitoes. Open drainage, on the other hand, increases the
risk of exposing individuals in the community to health problems and hazards which
may harm children while they are exploring the community, such as falling in the
sewers and acquiring disease due to the exposure of the drainage.

Brgy. Atlu-bola, Mabalacat City as to Drainage Condition

CONDITION FREQUENCY PERCENTAGE

STAGNANT 206 27.14
FLOWING 553 72.86
TOTAL 759 100

DEFINITION OF TERMS

 DRAINAGE CONDITION- It consists of two categories which are free-

flowing or stagnant. The condition of a household's drainage systems can be
used to identify the source of a disease.
 STAGNANT- since it is not moving in a current or stream, it is also known as
motionless water. It can also be an result of a obstruction in the drainage.

 FLOWING- characterized by a free flowing water.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

According to the results, 27.14 percent of the drainages in Brgy. Atlu-bola is

stagnant, while 72.86 percent are flowing. The majority of the households have
flowing drainage, which means that most of them clean their drainage to keep it from
clogging, but some of the households have stagnant drainage due to the garbage that
is thrown away, which may be the source of clogs in their drainage.

HEALTH IMPLICATIONS

A free-flowing drainage system inhibits the transmission of viral and bacterial

diseases by vectors such as mosquitoes, rodents, cockroaches, flies, and other disease-
carrying organisms. By cleaning it every day, you can fully prevent the transmission
of diseases such as dengue and leptospirosis. A stagnant drainage condition implies
that mosquitoes have their breeding and nesting sites where they can multiply. As a
result, diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and h-fever will be more likely to arise.
It can also cause severe complications if the vectors come into contact with human
food and skin.
