Project Assessment

Project Overview

This project requires you to implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures,
and programs to meet legislative requirements. This includes:
1. Delivering a safety induction in the workplace
2. Reviewing WHS information from the workplace
3. Conducting a WHS consultation
4. Implementing and monitoring risk control procedures

COMPLETING THIS PROJECT IN THE WORKPLACE

Wherever possible, this project must be completed in your own workplace,


including the gathering of evidence.
Where a current workplace is not available, you must conduct your project
assessment in an environment where conditions are typical of those
experienced in a training and assessment environment, including access to
resources outlined here: Resources Required for Assessment (Hold Ctrl

Instructions to the Candidate

To complete this project, you will need to secure necessary permissions from your
workplace supervisor to complete the activities and requirements included in this
project within the workplace.
Discuss and confirm with your supervisor that your workplace is able to provide you
with access to the resources outlined below before proceeding with this project.
Read the instructions provided in this project carefully before proceeding.
Resources Required for Assessment:
To complete this project, you will need:
 A workplace or an environment where conditions are typical of those
experienced in a business setting that will allow candidate access to:
 Workplace supervisor
 Documentation of organisational policies, procedures and programs
 At least two (2) current (within the last five years) work health and
safety documentation in the workplace
These may include but are not limited to:
 Accident/incident reports
 Hazard identification forms
 Risk registers

 At least two (2) relevant people in the workplace to deliver a safety


induction with
It must include at least one (1) worker from the organisation and any
of the following:
 your supervisor
 work health and safety representatives
 managers
 At least three (3) relevant personnel from the workplace to participate
in a WHS consultation
They must include at least two (2) work health and safety advisors and
representatives, and your supervisor and/or another colleague.

Part 2 – Work Health and Safety Consultation

For this part of the assessment, you will be consulting with relevant workplace
personnel to discuss existing and potential hazards and risks and the workplace,
and determine ways to manage these.
Specifically, this part of the assessment will involve:
a. Accessing and reviewing workplace health and safety information.
b. Consultation with at least three (3) relevant workplace personnel regarding
the workplace health and safety information you will review. At least two (2)
relevant personnel must include work health and safety advisors and/or
representatives. The other personnel can include your supervisor and/or
another colleague.
c. Implementation of risk controls which will come up as a result of your
consultation with the relevant workplace personnel.
Ensure to appropriately obtain necessary permissions and make arrangements
from these people before commencing with the tasks.

Task 1: Review Workplace WHS Information

For this part of the assessment, you will need to review WHS data and reports
from your workplace to monitor the effectiveness of control measures.
Read the instructions carefully before proceeding.
Steps to take:
1. Obtain permission from your supervisor to be able to access at least two (2)
different work health and safety documentation in the workplace. These
may include but are not limited to:
 Accident/incident reports
 Hazard identification forms
 Risk registers
2. Review the information provided in these reports.
3. Use the Risk Tracker template to record the following information from the
reports reviewed:
At least two (2) risks which are recurrent in the work area.
Number of incidents reported prior to the implementation of the first risk control.
a. At least two (2) different control measures implemented by the organisation
to control these risks. Refer to the last two (2) control measures
implemented. Outline the procedures for each control measure.
b. Specify the date when each control measure was implemented.
c. For each control measure indicated, specify the reason for implementing a
different control measure, or why the control measure was inadequate.
Record these under the outcomes column.
Where this information is not available in the reports reviewed, consult your
supervisor to determine this.

4. Have your workplace supervisor sign the Supervisor’s Declaration at the


end of the completed template. Their signature must be hand-signed.
Save and submit the completed Risk Tracker. Use the filename:

Task 2: Conduct WHS Consultation

For this part of the assessment, you will need to consult with three (3) relevant
workplace personnel on the findings from your review.
Read the instructions carefully before proceeding.
Steps to take:
1. Review the organisation’s policies and procedures on workplace health and
safety consultation procedures before you begin with the task. Ensure to
follow these throughout the consultation process.
2. Make arrangements with at least three (3) relevant workplace personnel to
discuss on:
 At least two (2) recurrent hazards you identified based on their
workplace WHS reports.
 Outcomes of risk assessments and control measures implemented.
At least two (2) relevant personnel must include work health and safety advisors
and/or representatives. The other personnel can include your supervisor and/or
another colleague.
3. Following the hierarchy of controls, develop two (2) new control measures
to be implemented to eliminate or control the recurrent hazards.
4. Identify two (2) other workplace health and safety issues in consultation with
the workplace personnel. For each issue, specify one (1) control measure to
be implemented.
5. Record the outcomes of your discussion in the Hazard Identification
Form.
Leave the last column of the template blank.
6. Have the three (3) workplace personnel sign the Participant Declaration:
WHS Consultation Part 1 at the end of the partially completed template.
Their signatures must be hand-signed.
There is no submission at this point as you will use this document as a
running record for the succeeding parts of this assessment.

Task 3: Implement and Monitor Control Measures

For this part of the assessment, you need to implement the control measures
developed during the WHS consultation with the workplace personnel.
Read the instructions carefully before proceeding.
Steps to take:
1. Obtain permission from your workplace supervisor for you to be able to
implement risk controls in the work area.
2. Use the Hazard Identification Form completed partially in Task 2.
Implement each of the four (4) control measures developed during the WHS
consultation.
3. Specify the date when you implemented each control measure. Describe
the actual outcome of each implementation. For each control measure
implemented, have your supervisor/at least one (1) relevant workplace
personnel sign off and date its specific section in the form.
There is no specific time period when to undertake each action item but
ensure to make arrangements with your workplace supervisor to be able to
address the issues promptly.
4. Once all the control measures are implemented, make arrangements to
conduct a second discussion with the three (3) relevant workplace
personnel from Task 2.
5. Discuss with them the following:
 The outcomes of your implementation of the control measures
 The date for the next review of the control measures (must be based on
organisational requirements).
