WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEACHER?

Students are most affected by the aspects of their teacher. Nowadays, teaching methods,
environments, and tools have been changed. Teaching is hard work. Teachers must grow and
adapt themself to new developments. They must interact with the students and focus on
developing their teaching techniques in terms of what makes us a good teacher.

Great teachers work continuously to create a comfortable zone for students and give an
opportunity to express themselves smoothly. A great teacher respects students. Mutual respect
in the classroom provides a cooperative atmosphere. The teacher should give students the
freedom to choose the subject they are really interested in. Each students’ opinion is precious.
The class should be fun. Therefore, the students look forward to each day. A great teacher
must build a good relationship with students beyond doubt. Absolutely, what the teacher
teaches to students should be practical and easy to understand. The students can understand
when and how to implement what they’ve learned in the real world. In an intensive studying
program, motivation is highly important for the students. In order to motivate the students, a
great teacher must be empathetic, accessible, and helpful. The teacher must observe the
students and determine where they make mistakes and have lack knowledge and interest
related to the subject. A good teacher tells stories and uses their names so as to make the
students understand the subject thoroughly and draw their attention. The students relate to the
story personally when the teacher brings up a topic. The method should be visual. Realias,
videos, and pictures are significant to keep the interest alive. A good teacher presents
materials to make sure that every student grasps the key concept.

A good teacher should be able to engage and motivate the students in order to arouse their
attention. The teacher must be aware of how long a learner is able to concentrate at any one
time. Some learners have a short attention span. In this case, a good teacher engages with
students’ imagination by making them illustrate the subject. The teacher shouldn’t be pushy
but lead them to cooperate with each other and study in a group. Learners’ characteristics can
vary from learner to learner. Are they, for example, shy, outgoing, patient. curious, sensitive,
etc.? All these qualities will affect how and how much each student engages in different kinds
of activities in the classroom. A great teacher should be aware of this and ask them which
activities they prefer and why. Students must be included in the learning process in which
way they prefer. And of course, giving feedback significantly take place to motivate the
students in the learning process.

In conclusion, teachers’ dedication and commitment to students’ success are highly important
so as to be a good teacher. Good teachers must realize what students need and what level of
their knowledge. Awareness of students’ needs and abilities are the vital keys of properly
teaching. Understanding all of these lead a teacher to success. Thus, teachers feel happy and
fulfilled at their work. The happier students, the more satisfied teachers.
