1. Scope
This Technical Installation Guide (TIG) describes the general and product-specific guidelines
for the installation of the Netstar VBU 450 Early Warning system and the Netstar VBU 418
Sleuth system into a 2005 Toyota Quantum.

The Netstar VBU 418 Sleuth system is an entry-level phone-in system, whereby the user is
required to inform Netstar of a theft or a highjack situation. At this time, the Control Centre will
activate the VBU 418 Sleuth system and proceed with the tracking and recovery operation.

The Netstar VBU 450 Early Warning system does not require the vehicle owner to telephone
Netstar if someone steals his or her car. The Netstar VBU 450 Early Warning system has a
remote arming device. If, after you arm the unit, someone forces the ignition, or tows away the
vehicle, the unit will transmit signals to the Control Centre. On receipt of these signals, the
Control Centre will contact the vehicle owner, or Netstar will respond and recover the vehicle.

This TIG describes the guidelines for the installation of the two different systems. Sections 6
through 9 apply to the Netstar VBU 450 Early Warning system. Sections 10 through 13 apply
to the Netstar VBU 418 Sleuth system. The vehicle disassembly instructions for the two
systems given in Section 14 are similar. Section 14 applies to the VBU 450 Early Warning
system and the VBU 418 Sleuth system. Where differences between the disassembly
instructions for the two systems occur, Section 14 identifies those differences. The other
Sections that apply to only one of the two systems are indicated as such. If there is no such
indication, these sections of the document apply to the two systems.

2. Purpose
The purpose of the TIG for the Netstar VBU 450 Early Warning system and the Netstar
VBU 418 Sleuth system is to:
Provide guidelines for the correct and efficient installation of the system.
Make sure that the installation meets the necessary quality requirements.
Make sure that the unit operates correctly after installation.
