    Now with the fading light of the day,

    Maker of all, to Thee we pray


    that with Thy wonted care and love,
    Thou guard and protect us from above.

    Take far away each hideous dream,


    things in the night that monstrous seem,
    wiles of our old arch-foe restrain
    lest faltering flesh contract a stain.

    Father almighty, grace afford,


    grant it through Jesus Christ our Lord,
    Who with the Holy Ghost and Thee
    is reigning for all eternity.
