SECTION B: (60 MARKS)

Answer any five questions from this section

11. (a) Using a ruler, pencil and pair of compasses only;

Construct triangle DMK in which DM=5.2 cm , MK= 6.5 cm and
angle DMK = 105o. Measure and state the length of DK and the size of
angle MKD.
(b) Draw a circle passing through the points D, M and K and hence calculate
the area of the segment cut off by chord DK . (Use π =3 .14 ) (12
marks)

12. (a) Copy and complete the table of the graphs of

y = 2x2 + 3x – 3 and y = 7x – 3 for -3 < x < 3

x -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3
y=2x2 + 3x – 3 6 2 24
y = 7x – 3 -24 4 18

(b) Use the completed table in (a) above to draw on the same axes the graphs
y = 2x2 + 3x – 3 and y = 7x – 3 for -3 < x < 3. Use scales of 2cm to represent
1 unit on the x – axis and 2 cm to represent 5 units on the y-axis.
(c) Use your graphs in (b) to solve the equation 2x2 – 4x = 0. (12 marks)

transformation whose matrix ¿ to give P1Q1R1 followed by

T 2=¿ ( 0.5 0 ¿ ) ¿ ¿¿
another matrix ¿ to give the final image P11Q11R11.
(b) On the same axes draw triangles PQR, P1Q1R1 and P11Q11R11.
(c) Use your graph in (b) above to describe fully the transformation
represented by T2. (12 marks)

(ii) Modal weight
(c) Draw a bar chart to represent the above data. (12 marks)

15. A school is to transport its science teachers and students for a residential science
workshop. The coast of maintaining a teacher is sh. 60,000 and sh. 45,000 a
student. The school has a maximum of sh.1,800,000 for the residential workshop.
One and a half times the number of teachers should exceed the number of
students. Given that the school can only transport and maintain up to a total of 35
people;
