8. Contestant's Short Biography
Elena Hurtado is 16 and is a junior at Classical High School. She started
playing piano at the age of 6 and has been a student of Nonetta Shatakhtsian
at the RI Philharmonic Music School since age 8. She was selected to play at
the RI Music Educators Honors Recital on two occasions, when she was in 5th
and 8th grade. Additionally, she has been selected to participate in two
masterclasses, one with Viktor Valkov as part of the Kingston Chamber Music
Festival in 2017 and one with Olga Kern in 2019. Elena has been an active
member of the Chopin Young Musician’s Club for the last 8 years and has
played in numerous recitals in Rhode Island and her father’s hometown of
Llerena, Spain. Elena also plays violin and studies under Danela Rubinstein.
She is a musician in the RI Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. She has
participated in the RI Youth All State Orchestra and was second chair first
violin in ninth grade.
