Mini DBQ

1. The DBQ aligns with a unit of study in a secondary school course because it/ they depict

segregation and discrimination towards African Americans during the Reconstruction/

Post-Reconstruction era. This would suit grades 9-12. The unit of study would fall after

the Civil War unit, under “Reconstruction/Post-Reconstruction.” Students would analyze

the pictures/ texts within the pictures about what they see and how it makes them feel. I

would show these images during an appropriating lesson. The documents fall under the

following Arizona State Standards:

● HS.SP1.1 Evaluate how events and developments were shaped by unique circumstances

of time and place as well as broader contexts.

● HS.SP1.3 Evaluate the significance of past events as they relate to their own lives and the

world.

● HS.SP3.2 Gather relevant information from multiple sources representing a wide range of

views while using origin, authority, structure, context, and corroborate value of the source

to guide the selection.

● HS.SP4.3 Integrate evidence from multiple relevant sources and interpretations into a

reasoned argument.

The document falls under the following Arizona’s College and Career Ready Standards:
● Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, using

advanced searches effectively; assess the usefulness of each source in answering the

research question; integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of

ideas, avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation. (9‐10.WHST.8)

● Use varied transitions and sentence structures to link the major sections of the text, create

cohesion, and clarify the relationships among ideas and concepts. (9-10. WHST.2)

● Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from and supports the information

or explanation presented (e.g., articulating implications or the significance of the topic).

(9‐10.WHST.2)
